Just heard on The Today Show this a.m. that Jay Leno will be moving his dog & pony show to primetime in '09. He'll be on at 9 p.m. (CST) and Conan will fill his current time slot of 10:30 p.m.

Sounds like a couple of reasons for this...
1) NBC didn't want Jay to move to ABC (or any other network)
2) The primetime dramas cost big bucks to produce and moving Leno to their time slots will help reduce costs in this struggling economy.

Are you going to miss the NBC shows in the current 9 p.m. time slot?

Law and Order on Wednesday...

Other than that, one of the local affiliates here shows Mission Impossible (original) reruns at 9:00 PM, and I usually watch those on the other nights. That Barney is a clever one...

Given that I rarely watch anything besides news, movies, and sports - I think it's a great thing. I'm not sure O'Brien can carry the "Tonight Show" and NBC needs to keep Leno in the fold.

Plus, Leno is just plain funny. Conan usually is not (IMO).

My guess is that in a couple of years Leno will go back to his current spot or they'll turn to John Stewart as the host.

Hey Palmer - you and I are usually in agreement. Leno makes me bust my gut laughing.

I know!

oh well. everyone has different taste.

I think Austin Powers and Will Ferrell films are hilarious while my wife thinks they are not....

more like an act of desparation. Ad revenue and ratings are way down for networks. I've heard rumors of networks actually giving primetime hours back to the local affilates for local programming.

We saw Leno live when we went to vegas to see the clones. His standup was much better than his monologues on the show because he was allowed to say things you can't say on television.

Some of the things on his show are pretty funny, though.

Well, that seals that deal. I won't be watching NBC any night at 9:00 now.

This is, at best, a temporary fix for NBC. I don't see it lasting more than two or three years, even if it's successful. I think it's terribly risky. It's one of those things where if it works they'll be seen as geniuses, and if it doesn't people will ask what they were thinking.

To answer the question about whether I'll miss any shows at 9:00, I only watch NBC on Monday nights and do watch My Own Worst Enemy, but I've heard that was already canceled anyway--I think next week is the last episode. It wasn't bad, but I could tell it wasn't going to last. I think the premise of the show (regular guy Christian Slater finds out he's actually an undercover operative who had his personality altered) would make a much better movie than a TV series.

NBC also had Journeyman Mondays at 9:00 last year. I liked that show, but they went and canceled it too. Meanwhile crap like Knight Rider continues to air.

We're back in agreement then. There's not much better than juvenile humor movies. My wife says she hates them, but then hovers while I watch and laughs her head off.

She was famous for that when I used to watch "King of the Hill". She'd complain that I'd turn it on, but then she'd hover and enjoy. Even my kids called her out on that one.

Yep. My Own Worst Enemy is canceled. Don't know when the last show airs. I actually watched Leno last night for the first time in probably 5 years, it's the worst talk show out there. I was cringing while watching it.
