I got Directv Stream and MLB.tv so I could watch any game I want. Turns out that since the Brewers are blacked out in Iowa, I can’t watch their game on the MLB app even though Des Moines Fox 17 picked up Yankees-Red Sox instead of Brewers-Padres. Any workarounds?

I don’t know but it pisses me off too. Says on my guide it’s supposed to be on. Blackout? I’m supposed to drive five hours to watch it?

All games involving the Twins, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, and Royals are blacked out in Iowa on MLB TV because they say we’re in all of those teams’ territories and they want us to watch the games on the TV channels that carry those games, like Marquee, FanDuel, etc.

Ok, that’s fine. Only problem is that most cable/streaming packages don’t carry all six channels you need. You’re lucky if you get one or two of them.

Directv with the Sports Pack gets you all of them. So in theory, with that and MLB TV you should have access to every game all season, right?

Well, apparently not. If one of the six local teams is on a FOX regional broadcast like tonight and our local FOX affiliate gets the other game, the game we don’t get is still blacked out on MLB TV. They don’t make an exception, so I guess there’s no way to watch it without going to the game or finding a pirated stream.

Pretty pathetic they can’t figure out a way to fix this if you ask me. I’m already annoyed by how many apps I need to watch baseball. I even need the FanDuel Sports Network app because the Brewers are rarely on the FanDuel Wisconsin feed that Directv carries, but if I put in my TV provider can watch it on the FanDuel Sports Network app.

Direct TV and the sports pact only gets you the Royals, Cardinals, Cubs and WS, the Twins and Brewers used to be available also, but you have to pay for them now, and have for a couple of years. MLB needs to really give their black out areas a hard look and realize that broadcasting those games does not hurt attendance, we are hours away from each city, but instead increases awareness of the teams and give people a better reason to actually go to a game. Be able to see the Cubs and Braves on TV for years, is the major reason they have so many fans nationwide that they do.

I have the streaming version, which does have a channel for the Twins and a version of FanDuel Wisconsin that rarely carries the games, but does give me access on their app if I put in my TV provider info.

What’s crazy is I don’t think there is a single cable provider in the state that carries FanDuel Wisconsin. That’s why the NBA doesn’t put Iowa in Bucks territory, but does include Iowa in Pacers territory due to the shared history of the St. Louis, Kansas City, and Indiana RSNs.

I stream it also, and before had it by satellite, you can pay to watch the Twins and Brewers, but they are no longer part of the DT sports pack. Not sure why, but they were taken off us viewing them a couple of seasons ago.

Really, when we lived on the Missouri border, they stopped giving us those games, twins and brewers a few years ago. When we moved to Ames and stream direct we still get the 4 teams we were getting down there, but not neither teams to the North. They list the game, but when you try to watch it, it says, "Blacked out in your area, and give a number to call to sign up". Strange.

I just know that Marquee/CHSN and FanDuel Midwest/KC/Indiana are the ones that come with the regular package in central Iowa and I needed to get the Sports Pack for North, Wisconsin, and the Twins channel (only live for games).
