Is the timing of this discussion appropriate?

There just giving their opinion that he would be a great hire for them. I agree it would be a great hire for them. I'm not sure he would want it, but it would be a great hire for them. They aren't starting rumors that he is interviewing or anything.

What would have been inappropriate is if they had asked him about the job when they had him on to talk about the tournament this afternoon, but they didn't. Why does everyone try so hard to be butthurt about what is said on that station?

Butthurt = overused & misapplied on virtually every post. Thanks for the insight though.

You are more or less asking if you should be offended here, trying to tease out some kind of perceived insult. That is the very definition of butthurt.

If the Drake administration would put forth the effort to support the program, TJ could win there. Needs better pay and facilities but he could get the talent to compete in the valley.

Unless the State of Iowa salary website is wrong, TJ makes just over $200K. This website would not include bonuses, if any. But it seems to me that if he builds his resume a few more years with FH, he will have much, much better opportunities ahead.

Maybe Fran will apply. I suspect he is getting plenty of heat in Iowa City over the pre-season schedule he set up. With the relatively weak B10 schedule, this was the year to make a move with the program. Next year's B10 schedule may not be as accommodating.

Who was the last ISU assistant that got a HC job (at any college) directly after his ISU job?

A few things:

1. Again, we are working on borrowed time with TJ. We are lucky he stuck it out here through the entire McDermott era. We are lucky he decided to stay here with Fred. We are lucky he started dating someone around here. The fact that he is spending less and less time recruiting means that he is more and more ready to probably move on. But he will eventually move on. That's just the facts.

2. Other than location and the fact that he may want to stay in Iowa, the Drake job doesn't offer much. It is a deadend job at a school that doesnt' value basketball. He'd be better off going to a worse conference at a school that would be interested in building a program.

3. While TJ is an attractive candidate for any school, he might not be the type of guy Drake is looking for this time around. Phelps was a youngish assistant known for his recruiting. TJ is a young assistant known for his recruiting. Drake has said that they want someone who has been a head coach this time.

4. It's not like Brinson and Miller had this thought on their own. They are not that bright.
