I heard about him leaving, but that would absolutely suck if Nebraska got him... though I don't know how long before he'd be able to play. He'd have to redshirt during his transfer year, and then play his senior year, so I guess only having to face him one year is a plus.

Assuming everything goes as planned, Bret Meyer would probably be 2nd team Big 12 next year (unless he has an absolutely stunning year.). Sam Keller is a great, great QB.

ESPN is reporting that ASU quarterback, Sam Keller is seriously considering transferring to Nebraska. He'd sit this year and play his final season in '07. That sucks.:frown3qg:

Nope, doesn't suck at all. Hard not to get exicted with numbers like these:

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2228133

Keller threw for 2,165 yards and 20 touchdowns last season before a hand injury sidelined him after seven starts. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder torched Louisiana State for 461 yards (35 of 56) and four TDs and Northwestern for 409 yards (20 of 31) and four TDs. Keller passed for 347 yards against Southern Cal but was intercepted five times.

Why would it suck. He got beat out at ASU not your best football program. He is a second teamer. Somehow NU fans will make it sound like the second comming if he goes there. I say nothing to worry about.. He started a grand total of 7 games at ASU. Not like he was second string at Miami..

I think ASU is a little like Texas Tech. Their offense is built to pass...a scheme that benefits the QB and his stats are huge.

We'll see how he'll do in Callahans system...should he in fact be headed for Lincoln.

Exactly. He MIGHT be considering Neb. Nothing too definite there.

"According to the source, the senior is seriously considering transferring to one of three schools, and Nebraska might currently be his top choice."

"Great" has to be the most misused word when people describe athletes these days. Keller is a solid quarterback with prototypical size and good arm strength, but "great" is quite a stretch.

As has already been pointed out, he is a second-team QB on a team that was 7-5 last year. His record as the starter (his first full year) was 3-4. The stats he put up were in a very QB friendly system under Dirk Koetter. Koetter is an offensive guru who knows how to put points on the scoreboard in a wide-open offense. Moreover, Keller was throwing the ball to the all-time Pac-10 receiving leader (D. Hagan) and a TE (Miller) who will be playing on Sundays as a first-day draft pick when his career ends. Quite frankly, I think he compares with the player he replaced at ASU, Andrew Walter.

I would be surprised to see him transfer to another D-I school to sit out a year and play a year when he is already listed in some draft publications as a top 5 NFL senior QB prospect because of his size and strength. I think he would be hard-pressed to gamble that being two years older (24) at draft time would be any sort of advantage even if he had a solid year at Nebraska or any other school. As a 2nd or 3rd round pick next year, he would most receive a 4-5 year deal with good money.

I thought Keller was the starter and then they had a player revolt at ASU over who knows what so Keller got shoved to second. One rumor was arrogance with the other players. If I passed that well, I would be arrogant too.

Do not kid yourselves. NE needs Keller worse than he needs them. He has talent and can go a long ways under the right coach.

The guy would be at most a 1-year player for them... I mean really, what kind of impact is he going to have. This, to me, isn't news until 2 years from now when he could actually suit up.

If Keller transfers to Nebraska, he would sit out this year and be a senior in 2007. Prior to being injured last year, he was putting up monster numbers. All of Nebraska's skilled posistion players are JR's or younger. The Nebraska offense in 2007, regardless of who is QB (Hildebrand or Keller), has the potential to be very lethal.

IMO, Nebraska doesn't need Keller more than he need's NU, prior to the Beck fiasco, what you said could've been true, but with Hildebrand in camp and if Keller transfers in, having 2 4* studs battle it out for starter is the dreams of every college football fan.

A week ago, Keller was the number 1 QB at ASU, something happened with the coach at ASU and in a matter of hours, Keller went from the #1 QB to being a backup. Keller has been granted his release from ASU.

The other two schools Keller is considering are Oklahoma and Colorado. His family members indicate that he is in the considering stage. However, if he wants to go BRed, he needs to start school soon. Lincoln classes started Monday. Anything but a done deal. Then the hot prospect for next year would remain Brian Hildebrand who has started five games at a JC.
