Just a little walk down memory lane, for those of us (ahem) more mature Cyclone fans.

Among the prominent ISU athletes of the Eighties was Keith Sims. I referenced him on another thread, and thought that he deserved mention in his own, which I will transfer here. I had the good fortune of a passing acquaintance when he was on campus, and Keith was as nice a guy, smart, quiet spoken and gentle, as he was big and athletic on the football field.

IIERC, recruited out of New Jersey by Jim Criner, but largely playing for Jim Walden, Keith's trademark note of athleticism around campus was that, at 6'2" 305, he could do a reverse dunk from a standing start--as much a part of ISU legend as Matt Blair putting a quarter on top of a backboard. Keith played left tackle at ISU, was taken in the NFL draft in the second round, and racked up a few Pro Bowls blocking for Dan Marino at left guard. .

I did run across this article about him, which has probably been posted here before.

It included this line, which I thought was excellent:
This week Sims and his business partners, brothers Ken and Clint Privett, completed the purchase of two existing Plantation stores, bringing their roster to 17 and making them among the largest Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees in Florida. (At 340 pounds, about 25 pounds heavier than he was as a three-time Pro Bowl player, we’d bet Sims IS the largest DD franchisee in Florida).

Of course, that article is a few years old, but it's nice to see that, like Danny Harris, Keith is doing well with his life.

Saw Keith Sims and Gene (Big Butt) Williams riding on a Honda Spree. Together.

Never felt sorry for a machine before until that moment.

Thanks for sharing. He was a little before my time, but I was a huge Dolphins fan when Marino was there. Glad to see him continuing success.

Keith and Joe Henderson lived on my dorm floor freshman year in the towers. My roommate got into a wrestling match with him between the elevators one night. Dude could hustle for his size. I remember his nickname was "Tiny". You are correct. He is a nice guy.

Amazing that we had Keith Freaking Simms and Big Butt on the same team and still were terrible. Although, instead of watching everyone else at Cyclone games I just watched Keith Simms all the time, which was nice, taught me to watch the line. Great player.

I used to have to make sure Geno got out of bed in the morning. Would bang on his door. I tried to break up a fight between Keith and some dude one time, felt really small. I saw Keith sucker punch a dude at Beyer one time. Knocked the guy out cold, and he was a big guy.

Joe used to hang out on my floor all the time (Workman) in 87-88, but lived on a different floor.

I've got a picture with Sims at an ISU game when he was with the Dolphins. Dude had on Dolphins Zubas, a fanny pack, and a classic 80s Dolphins hat. I was about 10 years old at the time and got a pair of Zubas (Iowa State colors) as soon as I could!

My team would use the weight room at the same time as the football team and Keith was the strongest guy I saw in my years at Iowa State.

I'll never forget walking into the Rec my freshman year to lift weights and watching James Reed squat a small house. I felt like such a little ***** that I never came back.
