KC Star Sports section jpg from 1/7/07

The front page of the sports section in the Kansas City Star was pretty sweet this morning after the win at MU. I scanned it in for everybody's viewing pleasure! Look at the very bottom of the scanned in image as well.

This is the best picture I have seen in a LONG time. You could come up with a great captions for about 13 different people in this picture. I do think the best is the guy in the upper left that looks like he just ruptured his spleen.

No, I looked through the rest of the section and there wasn't one regarding the controversial endings. I think the thing at the bottom was just a tag line of sorts.

That is a good question. The front page of today's sports section in the Rag consisted of a LARGE picture of Tony Romo after botching the snap for the Cowboys, an article about Zalesky on the right side, and a tiny picture of Wesley Johnson at the top with the article.

Who gives a rip about the Cowboys and the Seahawks in this area? Not many people.

I worked at The KC Star from '89-'93. They must have significantly upgraded their printing press because the picture looks great. I don't remember very many big color pictures of any team other than KU or Mizzou on the front page of the Sports section. It was a big win.

Tulsa, within the last year or so they spent a ton of money on a new press (and even a giant building downtown to hold it) and the whole paper has a lot more color. I was skeptical they were going to make it into USA Today but I really like the way it's turned out.

KC Star has always had great coverage of the Big 12, irregardless of which school it is.

I agree, someone needs to send this thread link to the DMR or send them the picture in an email. It is an outrage that the DMR does not cover the Big 12 and ISU as well as surrounding papers.

Show them what a real paper prints, not the backwoods Hawkeye inbred homerism of the DMR.

Did anyone actually read the article? I about spit cheerios across my kitchen table. Apparently Stefhon Hannah is a sore loser - he implies that the refs were in GMac's pocket:

“I knew we were going to win the game,â€￾ said Hannah, who led the way most of the day for Missouri and scored 17 points in support of Marshall Brown’s 19.

Ultimately, however, Hannah was at the heart of a controversial ending in which Iowa State turned probable loss into improbable triumph.

The winning play was set up when, with Missouri ahead 65-64, the Tigers’ Matt Lawrence inbounded the ball to Hannah with 7.7 seconds left. Hannah was trapped on a double-team in the northwest corner of Norm Stewart Court by Dodie Dunson and Jessan Gray.

Hannah, headed to the floor, said he screamed for a timeout.

“He (referee Tom O’Neill) looked right in my face, and he looked me off,â€￾ Hannah said. “I’m saying, ‘Timeout, timeout.’ He’s looking, I guess, at the Iowa State coach.â€￾

If O’Neill heard, it may have been after he was making his call. Hannah lost his balance, he said because of contact with an Iowa State player.

“While I was calling timeout, the dude above me fell,â€￾ Hannah said. “I still had my pivot (foot planted), though. I made sure I had my pivot. But he called a travel because the Iowa State coach was calling a travel.â€￾

Iowa State’s Wesley Johnson and Dunson said they didn’t hear a timeout call.

“I didn’t hear anything,â€￾ Dunson said. “We needed to trap. We got there at the right moment.â€￾

I was shocked at the picture of ISU on the front of the sports usally if KU, Mizzou of KSU loses they put that story on page three and try to hide that fact that it happened. like last year when ISU won at Missouri the story had a small picture on page five and only a paragraph or two about the game.
