He was a Rhoads holdover I believe, and last played for Iowa State in Campbell's inaugural season. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I remember. He a solid but nothing special DT. I thought we upgraded the following year when Ray Lima took his spot.
Nope. He was here for Campbell's second and third year

Tongamoa and Lima were in the same class

I think part of it was in college he was such a freak specimen, he could out-athlete the opponent most of the time. In the NFL everyone is a freak specimen. Hopefully this will lead to him getting another shot in the NFL.

I am really surprised Mike Rose didn't catch on somewhere in the NFL. Hopefully he puts enough on tape for a team to bring him into camp.

Hopefully he is leaner and faster, but above all, finally healthy enough to play to his full potential.

If I recall, I'm pretty sure he got hurt in Arizona. I just always assumed he either didn't bounce back or was viewed as expendable. Definitely wonder if there was more to it...

There wasn't more to it than he was incomsistent at catching routine passes and didn't get better.

If he were good enough for the NFL he would have stuck.

Philly tried him at TE and it still didn't work out.

He's a WR/TE tweener in the NFL. That's the knock I remember on him from reading draft stuff back then. Not sure what the negative reactions are for?

He was a great receiver at ISU. Some of the greatest catches there.

He struggled with catching the ball consistently. That's objective for a rationale for him not getting an NFL spot.

I was pretty excited when the Chiefs picked him up. But I knew it was a bad sign that I literally never heard anything about him during training camp. I was hoping he’d at least make the practice squad. Hoping he lights up the XFL and gets another shot somewhere!

Dude is a toothpick, no way he would ever be a TE in the NFL. Lazard could have beefed up potentially into a TE but Butler?

The two most important things NFL teams are looking for in WR are catching the ball consistently and get in and out of breaks quickly. Hakeem had a very high drop rate in college and isn’t quick in and out of breaks. He got hurt early.

Obviously I remember drops, but I’m curious if you have numbers on his drop rate compared to others? I was looking it up but couldn’t find anything(short search). I know X this year had a lot of drops in potential game winning situations. I also remember Butler being better at highlight catches than he was routine catches.

Not doubting it, just curious statistically. I remember I want to say a few years ago but apparently it’s 15-20 years ago already seeing the 10 WR’s in the NFL with the most dropped passes in the NFL, it was like #1 Terrell Owens, #3 Chad Johnson and a bunch of similar names and I remember back then thinking that’s crazy. But it made sense after seeing the targets compared to others.
