ISU under Wayne Morgan,Floyd, and Eustachy got recruits better than this. This kid is a good recruit, but some of you act like ISU couldn't normally land guys like this.

Will Blalock - 4 star
Rahshon Clark - 4 star
Curtis Stinson - Rivals 150
Tasheed Carr - 4 star
Shawn Taggart - 4 star
Jackson Vroman - 4 star
Tim Barnes - 4 star
Marcus Fizer - 4 or 5 star
Jamaal Tinsley - 4 or 5 star
Even McDermott landed a couple highly recruited guys.
Craig Brackins - 5 star
Diante Garrett - Rivals 150
Chris Colvin - 4 star
Laron Dendy - 4 star

These guys were all higher recruited. This kid is a Rivals 150 so don't act like he is normally a kid ISU couldn't get.

Actually, you are kind of off on a lot of those "rankings". You should probably do some research instead of just pulling things out of thin air to make a point.

Better than the worst Iowa coach in history? are you sure?

I think Mad Fran Beyond Thunderdome is going to outlick, Lick.

Record-wise, Lick won the title but **** Schultz is still the worst BB coach in Iowa history.

No need to do a search re: "weiner." Some truths are self-evident. I hate to admit it but I do think he's a better coach than his predecessor.

Plus, if you google "weiner", about the closest/safest you'll get is results of that dude tweeting his jockey shorts.

That was my intention on the post response. I didn't think anyone would take it for anything more. Guess I should have gone ahead and picked one of those smiley guys to make sure.

No worries, I got the joke, just adding on with a little current events humor. Plus, weiner.

It will be a major shock if that happens. The guy won a whopping 11 games yet their attendance shot up, big time. They have gotten behind this guy more quickly than I thought so he's doing something right. I've noticed he actually has a personality unlike Lick.

As for Abrahamson, I've seen him play a few times. Meh. He's not a difference maker in the Big XII but you need both glue guys and stars.

Way up there
I think people are more excited about the number of really good players we could get. Sure, we have gotten maybe one or two at a time but Niang, Abrahmson and Okoro as a whole is the exciting part.

I agree with this, only getting one of those guys wouldn't really warrant too much excitement or be out of the ordinary for what ISU traditionally brings in but bringing in a handful of solid high school kids is very exciting. Even at our best we relied heavily on jucos to make an impact, I don't mind that but its nice to see high school kids with other options showing interest in ISU.

I've never seen a group of fans so amazed by a rivals coach. Fran the Man may turn out to be a great coach for Iowa, but he has done NOTHING to prove it yet. They were awful last year. Awful. His recruiting is suspect at best.

There is no reason for any of us to kiss Iowa's *** in regards to Fran.

For the most part, we're being cordial. Our program i clearly ahead of theirs so we see no reason to bash them. I just remember every dbag Iowa fan I've ever met and it makes it pretty easy to pile on their pathetic situation. Fran isn't Lick but he isn't much better. That program is in a BIG hole.

FWIW, Iowa was marginally better than ISU last year in KenPom's ratings, widely regarded as the best ranking system for college basketball.

Not widely enought to matter here! Besides, we had scoreboard and record. Neither team was a world beater, and both lost games they easily could have won. I wouldn't trade programs. They likely feel the same way.

WIW = zero. Kenpom had ISU at 81, Iowa at 80. Given the state/direction of Iowa's program it's hard to see that number improving too dramatically next year, while ISU is poised for a significant bump.

The fact is both teams were bad this year, but only one will be next year

They also had KU ranked 3rd. How did that work out? Who gives a crap about a computer ranking after the tournament ? We beat Iowa in their house. We finished with 5 more wins, and they were not nearly as competitive in many of their losses as we were.

Don't put too much emphasis on one game when a season is 30+ games. Iowa had a better conference record in a tougher conference; ISU won the head-to-head. Unbiased rankings had the two teams neck-and-neck. It just seems silly to me to act like ISU was far superior to Iowa last season.

Fine you win. When you input these two teams' numbers into an algorithm, they are very similar.

That is where the similarities end, IMO. So far, Fred has shown that his players are very excited to play for him and he seems to be increasing talent at a faster pace. Time will tell obviously, but I'm very certain that ISU will climb out faster and further than Iowa.

If you were an Iowa HS b-ball player with no real allegiances, who would you rather play for? So far, I'll take the players that Fred has assembled over the guys Fran has put together.
