I'm a junior at Dowling Catholic and I don't know if this was addressed or even noticed, but being an avid Iowa State fan and obsessing with all things recruiting I came across some evidence of good vibes and possible foreshadowing of Kale Abrahamson and Iowa State.....This came from iowastate.scout.com's cyclone homepage regarding a story on Abrahamson.

"Cyclone Sports Report: What will be the most important factors in your final decision?

Kale Abrahamson: I would say that the most important thing would be having a good relationship with the coaches and players. I also want to see what kind of style that each team plays because I’m looking for a school that runs and gets out in transition. I want a coaching staff that let’s its players play their game.

Notice how he said his final decision will be based on relationship with coaches and players and a team that runs in transition. Am i the only one who sees this screaming Iowa State? Every recruit Freddie has gotten has said their major factor of choosing ISU is the relationship with Coach Fred. Also Iowa State is definitely a transition team. Just a theory, but its looking very good.

With Freddy the helm, we will stand a good chance with just about every Iowa player unless they have grown up huge Hawk fans. Had Freddy been here when Harrison was still in play, there is no doubt that we would have played a big factor and very well might have reeled him in. Fred is very personable and it's obvious that his players LOVE playing for him. Secondly, his style of play seems to be a big draw for recruits.

The last thing he needs to do is prove that he can coach a winning team and show an improvement over last year. I think he'll do that this upcoming season, and add to it next year.

Actually that's the style of play Franny likes to play at Iowa too. He just doesn't have the horses to do it effectively yet.

Kale Abrahamson: I like him a lot and we have a really good relationship. I like that he played at the highest level and that he knows what it takes to get to the professional level.

This right here folks is going to be the reason why we start getting recruits we normally don't get.

So he says his most important part of being recruited is having the connection with the coaches and players, and then says he has a really good relationship with CFH? I like that, it feels good to think that we could get him.

ISU under Wayne Morgan,Floyd, and Eustachy got recruits better than this. This kid is a good recruit, but some of you act like ISU couldn't normally land guys like this.

Will Blalock - 4 star
Rahshon Clark - 4 star
Curtis Stinson - Rivals 150
Tasheed Carr - 4 star
Shawn Taggart - 4 star
Jackson Vroman - 4 star
Tim Barnes - 4 star
Marcus Fizer - 4 or 5 star
Jamaal Tinsley - 4 or 5 star
Even McDermott landed a couple highly recruited guys.
Craig Brackins - 5 star
Diante Garrett - Rivals 150
Chris Colvin - 4 star
Laron Dendy - 4 star

These guys were all higher recruited. This kid is a Rivals 150 so don't act like he is normally a kid ISU couldn't get.

I don't think people are acting like we wouldn't get him and now he's considering us, I think its just a kid that we would like in the program regardless. Kale's a good kid and you can't have enough Rivals 150 kids in a program.

I think people are more excited about the number of really good players we could get. Sure, we have gotten maybe one or two at a time but Niang, Abrahmson and Okoro as a whole is the exciting part.

Carr, Clark, Barnes, Vroman, and Tinsley were not 4 or 5 star recruits...Tinsley definately played like it, but he was not heavily recruited. He picked us over Clemson and Fresno State.

Clark was. He was in the top 100 if I remember correctly

You hit it on the nose. Additionally, the fact that FH & staff think he's good enough to play our style of ball carries a lot of weight with me. The staff has shown that they know how to evaluate a player's potential such that they get in on the player at an earlier date than other schools. I trust their knowledge slightly more than the "experts" on this or any other board. ;)

Yeah, but i don't know who would want to play for Franny. That guy just seems like a weiner.

Press release:

Siena head coach Fran McCaffery has accepted an offer to become the newest head basketball coach at the University of Iowa. McCaffery has 13 years of head coaching experience at Lehigh, UNC-Greensboro, and Siena, and is coming off his fourth consecutive 20-win season and third consecutive NCAA appearance. Siena played uptempo (KenPom top 40 tempo rating year after year).

Amazing what you can find on that google thing. ;)

No need to do a search re: "weiner." Some truths are self-evident. I hate to admit it but I do think he's a better coach than his predecessor.
