According to this account, Kansas State's leading wide receiver Jayce Brown has entered the transfer portal. He also has a cryptic post to his Instagram story that's going around in K-State circles.

So he isn't playing Sat? Weird timing.

Why not play if you're a starter and xfer next season?
You’re going to start to see players opting out earlier than in the past because they can get an advantage pursuing NIL earlier than others. It’s the same reason coaches are getting fired earlier in the season nowadays. The party that has made a decision and acts early usually gains an advantage just because of the freedom for conversations.

Once those players announce they’re going shopping, the locker room can suffer a lot if they keep playing. Not to mention, the player has already made the decision that the overall goals of championships aren’t viable and likely doesn’t want to risk injury.

I imagine being able to enroll at their new school in time for second semester and being a full participant in spring workouts is also a reason.

Only difference I take from phrasing of 'plans to enter portal' and 'has entered the portal' is that the portal isn't open yet. It doesn't open until Monday, December 9.

Obviously still waiting from a reputable source on if this is 100%, but would be hard pressed to find a college coach at a power 5 school that knows a player is going to the portal and has him on the field for that last game. Think about how Abu got on the field as much as he did in Manhattan last year.

If he's indeed going to enter, I'd be shocked to see him in Ames Saturday.

The timing is odd the day before their final game. But with signing day next Wednesday, maybe he's guaranteeing a spot on his future team.

I only saw the 2 twitter posts, so did not see where he's not playing against ISU or going to CU. But times are changing, why couldn't Brown play against the Cyclones even if he's told the KSU staff he's transferring? I think we've moved beyond pretending P4 college football and basketball players aren't professional athletes.

No reason Brown can't play on Saturday any more than soon-to-be free agent Juan Soto couldn't finish his season with the Yankees!
