From the start of the additional RV lot, and the new lots around Hilton, until CyTown is done, it is actually a net gain of a few hundred spots vs before. So we will have more tailgating and parking than before the entire project started a couple years ago.

People seem to think that it is a loss of spots for some reason. I also hear about losing the Tent row...which I am sure those will go someplace..... From people that have never once used the tents still complain about them moving.

The problem is too many people dont read the information and know very little about the overall project then complain because parking is getting redesigned, believing we are losing a bunch of parking and other things that just arent true.

People say things like where is everyone going to park... but we will have more parking than 2 years ago...

People say its stupid because it is in a flood zone..but dont read that they are raising the entire area out of the flood plain.

People complain that its taking money from the University, when the University is not funding any of it, and dont fund any of the AD. Not to mention they complain about CY Stephens etc being run by the AD but dont realize this is all to improve and help fund the entire area, including the arts etc. That the University no longer funds.

I really think people either dont know much about the project, hate any kind of change or progress, or just like to complain
The group of folks that just don’t like Jamie are the vocal ones here too. The dude isn’t flawless but the hard takes that come from that camp often make zero sense to me.

I hope the project is successful for my Alma mater. However, in the back of my mind, can't help but think what if we had been able to put the investment into NIL money!

No reason it can't. Large donor buys an apartment in cyclone alley. Player "works" foe said donor and gets "paid" via a place to live. No less shady than anything else NIL

True, but players already get room and board, they want cash to be a spokeperson for something, unless the large donor has a business interest, like the guy that is funding 10 mil at Miami.

I'm guessing they will be or become donors.
Probably so. I was asking more about customers of those businesses. People who want to watch the game at the bar/restaurant. Would that even be possible for customers to park there at those times.

Iowa State can't put money into NIL.

As for our donors putting money into NIL, good luck. We have the poorest participant rate in the big12 in supporting athletic programs. We have lots of talkers, but not many check writers.

Brent B has done an incredible job so far with WeWill.

Universities cannot contribute to NIL. And if you are talking about the lead donation to get CyTown started, people give large sums of money for naming rights and NIL doesn't give the lasting legacy as naming rights to a building.

I am in the camp that CyTown is going to be a unique selling point to the University and specifically potential student athletes. ISU will be the first University to offer anything like it. The dividends (and revenue to the AD) will pay off over the long run versus a one time donation to NIL to maybe attract slightly higher talent for a short period of time.

Know this, and agree with Brent's evaluation, however donor fans do have budgets, Most of those budgeted funds go to the AD right now, but they could go elsewhere with the right messaging.

Edit: And I do speak as a "check writer", maybe not a large one, but i do get into the donor lots

While gaining parking spots adjacent to Coldwater Golf course and literally at Maple Willow Larch is a net addition in parking spots, there has to be some consideration for the value of the locations of the parking loss. Replacing C6 spots with B1 spots doesn’t compare.
Yes there is a cost for growth and development but it’s not all uneducated people who just like to complain that are pointing things out.

What are you suggesting? ISU goes from worst donation participation in the Big 12 to further worst?

I agree with your statements.

The real issues with NIL and our AD revenues are that we have a lot of talkers and not enough check writers. Why are our participation rates so low and always have been?

Nope, speaking from the perspective of a donor, who has contributed for 20 years, and continues to see "needs" rising to make programs successful; which is why I donated to begin my run, and now I am retired. Wife and I talked long and hard this year about our continuation to AD; getting priced out of the market for success; financial markets down so IRA'S under performing etc. We could do substantial travel with the money, especially if we feel our donations are not achieving their goals.

These are all very fair and normal comments. I know you know this, but every fan base has a certain percentage of its fans going through what you are going through.

That is part of the game.

The real issue is our lack of participation, not what you are bringing up.

That is not true. They added some spots around Hilton that adds or replaces some. But moving the RV to a designated lot opened a huge amount of spots in "D" Which are as close as any we will lose from this.

No spots were added at MWL that is just an exaggeration. The RV lot is what it is, they needed to have an area that works for that. Its not that much further especially with the bridge. The biggest issue there is it puts it in an island on its own.

You should look at other Universities in the Nation, and how much parking there is and how close it is vs ours. ISU has way more than most, and is set up fan friendly compared to most.

The people that park around Hilton are actually gaining a spot that was not there before, because we are gaining several hundred spots over the course of the project....which is about how many were added around Hilton.

The spots gained in"D" and by redesigning the layout, are replacing those lost in through the center of the lots for buildings, which is basically a wash in distance and convenience and value. Replacing C6 and B6 spots with D4 does compare though, no one is foring C6 people out to B1. For the most part it the highest people will stay where they are and the lowest will shuffle down, and no one will move very far from previous parking locations, the lowest point donors will actually gain spots that were not there before, which will be around Hilton.

One can say the RV lot is in a less desirable location, but the amenities it provides makes up for much of that. And regardless of CyTown or not, building an RV lot with the amenities it has was always going to have to move from the lots in "D" to a more suitable location for such a lot.

You are just trying to make it sound worse than it actually is.

The RV move was imperative and can’t be overlooked. It’s why it happened first.

We have a game day environment that most schools envy. Especially that one out east. The new Trice Village is going to be amazing and everyone is going to live happily ever after.
Until the first game with the bars open and people piss and moan that the lines are too long.

When the powers in charge designed this project, they knew parking spots were going to be paramount. Every car on gameday pays to get it. The university was not going to cut that one up.

I truly believe CY Town will be a "Wow factor" to potential recruits and regular students. This should be a win.
