We know what we got with those three. The best defense in the country. We don't have to predict that.

We do have to predict with the 3 new guys. How important was it that all 3 of the guys last year were in the program for at least 2 years? Do the transfers pick up the defense in one offseason? Strength is important for post defense, but instincts, understanding of angles, and anticipation are also big factors. It sounds like Jefferson might bring those skills. Hopefully Jackson brings the same level of intensity as Jones did on defense. He has a great build, but it doesn't matter if he doesn't have the intangibles. TJ's system has been a great equalizer for us, and I have no doubt that we will have an elite defense. But there might be growing pains. I don't know why that's so controversial in this thread.
I definitely understand what you are saying. What gives me optimism is Jackson came form a statistically solid defense (I haven't watched them so can't commit on it directly) and Jefferson came from a very good defensive program (and is supposedly a very good defender). TJ is upfront with guys and they know what they are getting into. I don't foresee any sort of major drop off there. Even if they are a bit of a drop off from this years group you are still a really ******* good defense.

An absolute home run for Otz and this staff. The perfect addition for this team

He looked like he could be when he committed but so far he has been the perfect addition to this team. Jackson and Chatfield have been great, too. But Jefferson has such a wonderfully well rounded skillset like Niang did that just fits beautifully within the pieces on this team.

Made me think of the guy I was hoping to get in William Kyle, staff seems to know what they are doing as Kyle is averaging 4 points a game and Jefferson is crushing it for us.

Context matters. I'd imagine the TJ staff would have known how to use him well.

Then again, Cronin is a very good coach. So maybe it was a good call.

He’s a good coach, but few programs can utilize a guy like Kyle as well as TJ and Green.

Another way to look at it, would Rob have played a ton of minutes at a place like UCLA that has little issue in getting talent? Would Ward?

IMO Kyle would be nice to have WITH the other three posts, if we knew Hadley wasn’t coming, filling a role similar to Ward. I think we recruited him as a “nice to have”, rather than must have. Perhaps we can get him when he leaves UCLA

Hadley would have given us even more small ball upside, with Jefferson moving to the 5. A shame that Watson never made that jump into that role.

I was not as excited about picking him up as I should have been in retrospect.

Imagine where he’d be if he had a fully productive offseason with us.

So well rounded and a really great compliment to this team. Another home run in the portal for TJ
