This was really interesting to watch. Pretty raw and honest interview with Dekkers about everything that happened.

I hope he gets a shot somewhere.
I'm not sure I would have said that before watching that interview. He made a mistake and paid an awful steep price. I think a lot of players would have walked away and avoided their past, he's willing to face the questions and scrutiny for an outside shot at a practice squad. It's maybe more impressive than anything he has shown on the field.
If I were a GM or coach I might doubt his ability to pick up and lead an offense, but no one should doubt his toughness or commitment to football.
I hope he gets an honest chance somewhere.

I wonder if the gambling stuff had not happened where would we be as a program right now. Would Dekkers played well enough to keep his job or would we have problems winning and Rocco takes over at some point? In hindsight I don't think we have the season we.juat did if Rocco doesn't get put in the situation he did the previous season.

I agree. I'm perfectly happy with Rocco driving our train. Even before the gambling scandal surfaced, I wasn't really sure about Dekkers' leadership. Maybe that's not fair, but I just have a feeling our guys rally around Rocco better.

I wonder if Iowa State is allowed to invite Hunter to Pro Day? Obviously there would have to be interest from both sides, but it would be a cool gesture to give Dekkers a chance to show out in front of the scouts that are here for our other guys

maybe the situation ended up being what Dekkers needed to mature now.

I don't think it happens, but I like the thought.

Rocco is the first ISU QB that I can recall leading us to late victories. Dekkers threw a lot of INTs during his one year as a starter and he didn't look very good overall, but play calling May have had something to do with that. He didn't take a lot of shots down the field. Even though he played JUCO ball this year, those reps were valuable for him and he put together a solid season. Hopefully the team that picks him up is a good fit for him.

In other news, Aidan Bouman is using his covid year and returning to South Dakota, where he will start for the 4th straight season.

We play USD this fall, right? Last I looked, had a couple of former Cyclones at wideout, too. Tristan Michaud and the former high school sprinter from Arizona.
