He took a sponsorship agreement with Impossible Foods so Nathan’s banned him from the hot dog eating contest.

It is a bit odd for someone who clearly isn’t a vegan to take a sponsorship deal from a brand supporting meat alternatives.

Nathans probably using it as an excuse to get this thing to be more competitive because the dude has won it a hundred times. Folks have seen him break the record several times and it’s just not that interesting I assume for many anymore. Not that it’s really all that interesting anyway due to how gross it is to watch those folks do it.

Chestnut was paid $200,000 to appear in last year's Nathan's contest and was also offered a four-year, $1.2 million contract.

The terms of his deal with Impossible Foods were not disclosed.

I'm guessing their angle is to raise awareness with non-vegan/vegetarians. After all, only ~10% of the US population is vegan or vegetarian. Their growth segment is probably people who are open to eating less meat or replacing it with other products.

I mean Nathan's offered him 1.2 million over 4 years if impossible is a better deal I'd probably eat ****** meat substitute products on camera too
Lets not pretend liquified organs, lips, and ******** aren’t already meat substitute!!

Nathan’s doing exactly what Impossible wanted and creating a bunch of free PR for them. Listened to an interview with Impossibles new CEO and the dude is interesting and this move fits his MO from what I saw.

Throwing down 20 dogs in a minute, who has time to taste anything?

Could have been sponsored by packing peanut or soft serve turd based weiner-shaped products.

This is pretty much spot on from the interview I saw about their brand “relaunch”. Basically saying if they can get 1% of meat eaters to rotate Impossible products with meat they will be wildly successful.

1. If I never see Joey Chestnut on TV again I’m fine with that.

2. Meat has a very loose definition here no matter which side you fall on. Very loose.

Like a loose meat sandwich?

I find it fascinating people want to watch other people eat hotdogs

I've only ever seen clips. It's good inspiration to find something healthy to eat and I like a good hot dog/brat.

Nathan's isn't the Bar S dollar hot dogs, all beef if I'm not mistaken.

Wonder which will have more viewers now, the hot dog eating contest or women's Olympic basketball.
