I'm not really sure what we can attribute this performance to, whether it be drugs, an incredible joke (and acting), or just craziness, but either way I'd say it is one of the most entertaining interviews on the Late Show ever. You don't really know if you should be laughing hysterically or cringing in pain.
Craziest thing since this.

The guy was obviously drunk or stoned. Would have loved to seen what his eyes looked like behind those glasses.

I say anybody who goes on the show like that is fair game for Dave and he nailed it...:biglaugh:

Hard to believe this guy is River Phoenixs brother. I read story on that family once and sounded like they had hippie parents and a really wierd upbringing.

Say what you want, but the guy is a brilliant actor. I think he should have gotten an Oscar for his performance in Walk the Line. That is an awesome movie...

He is a good actor for sure. But you just don't go on Letterman's show and behave that way...at least not knowing you are going to be taken to school by Dave! I would have loved to be in Dave's offices after that taping.

His parents were Children of God missionaries. He appeared in the movie Parenthood with Steve Martin under the name Leaf. His siblings names are River, Rain, Liberty and Summer. Sounds about right.

I guess next he'll call Colin Cowherd to argue with him about the BCS.

That had to be a setup. Dave would have beat on him more than just laughing if it was real. Plus the audience reacation was a give away.

I thought it was a joke, then realized how pissed Dave was.
He did give the brilliant ending smack to him: "Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight."

Yeah, that was classic Letterman at the end there.

I also thought it was a joke. Good TV though.....no matter how you slice it.

So I just got a chance to watch the video and I think its all a big joke. You could almost see Joaquin start to laugh after a couple of those lines.

And if its not a joke...may god have mercy on his soul.

I may be dating myself but do any of you guys remember when Letterman used to have a morning show back in 1980? It was my freshman year and we used to skip class to watch it. He was just a little too "out there" for the normal morning viewer.

There's a big media controversy about this. Have any of you guys seen the videos of him "rapping"? Supposedly he's leaving acting to do it, and is just awful. There's the story going around that they're filming it (kind of doing a method acting thing), but there's also another story that he has denied anything of the sort. It's been on www.wwtdd.com a lot. He's a goofy guy, regardless of which is true. I personally felt like I could see him acting.
