Unfortunate loss but he had been passed by true freshman for playing time last year.

Too bad when you hear about high rated guys leaving the program. To me it is indicative of both good and bad elements. The good being players are beating him out for in-game reps. The bad is that this was a recruiting miss.

As a general rule, I would think, OK, if we are going to take a 5'9" defensive back, then he had better be a 4 star, or have a 42 inch vertical and 4.4 speed. Neither of those two options look at Iowa State very often, so essentially you just don't take 5'9" DBs. Admittedly, Datrone Young has been an exception, he is very good, but you still can't say that another 3 inches wouldn't make him better. (I know, TWSS!)

If he comes back, I hope he puts in the work to see the field. If he leaves, good luck to him wherever he goes. He was highly rated, but sometimes the timing or the fit just doesn't work.

We took Reeves but I think he may have had a 50 inch vertical and was out of his mind in terms of athleticism

Morton ran a 10.65 100m in high school, and I’m reasonably sure that translates to a 4.4 40.

Probably time for you to stop underestimating ISU.

No he wasn't a 4 Star but he was considered one of the best CB's in the Midwest when Iowa State picked him up.

Tough to compare that staff's recruiting to the current one. That said, Reeves was a freak, if he were 5'9, he'd probably have stuck in the NFL. He had NFL skill and athleticism. Him matching up with the 6'9 TE from army (who plays OL in the NFL now) as a frosh was super entertaining to watch. Pretty rare to see a 14 in ht difference in football.

Can you make a flow chart for the coaches? If a 5'9" guys is better than the 6'0" guy, do we take the 6'0" guy? Is there a height delta that we should take the worse guy, 3", 4", 5" ,Etc? Do we take the 5'9" guy and start telling everyone he grew 7" over the summer ala Iowa Basketball?

Depending on the recruiting service, we’ve had a handful. Mostly JCs.
