I know they play later into the year and host more events, but living in Chicago, and always hearing about ISU's best in the world turf as an alum...there has to be some way Soldier Field's turf could be better. The precipitation is almost the same and temperature is only slightly cooler because of the lake. Whatever Ames gets we get 12-24 hours later, yet best turf for an NCAA team and worst turf in the NFL (not that many NFL teams even have it anymore).

Well deserved, especially for being in the northern part of the country. ISU has a terrific natural grass field.

it's because Soldier field is maintained by the chicago park district. just imagine 15 city workers standing around for 4 hours debating over how to change out a piece of sod or two before taking all of their union negotiated breaks and accomplishing virtually nothing.

Or perhaps it's this guy:

It ain't about being tough...it's about having respect for others and their property.

I spend at least 2 hours a day on my lawn and I don't want that time to be wasted so my kids are not allowed on it. If they want to play outside there is nice park with swings, ball field, basketball goal, and much more just 7 blocks away.

So if my kids aren't allowed on it I sure as heck am not going to allow other neighborhood ruffians to track their little Nike's (no Traxx in this area, we are the upper crust after all) thru my Sod of God.

Mike Andreason used to be in charge of the football field facilities, but he may be retired by now. If he still is, congratulations to Mike.

Bah, it's because the Bears rely on teams not being able to play on that crap.

I've always had to convince new people behind me that the field is real and not artificial. This is awesome!

I think the Soldier Field turf is a joke and inexcusable, but that field does have more games that tear it up, high school, college and pro.
