So does that mean you don't have to pay for downloads?

You probably still have to pay to download it, but once you download it, hopefully it means that you no longer have to go through a bunch of contortions to use the file...like using iTunes to burn the music to CD, and then rip it back from the CD to get an MP3 that you can play on another device, etc...

Stil AAC format though. There is also 3 pricing structures now with the lowest being .69. Looks like Amazon started to effect sales.

Another thing that sucks is that they'll charge you .30 a piece to unlock all you're songs. So pretty much what they are saying is "you should have downloaded the MP3 version for free off of bit-torrent and then you could have done with the song what you wanted. But if you paid the .99 then we're going to charge you another .30 to actually give you the music you already paid for in the first place.

I doubt they'll ever move from AAC to MP3. It doesn't bother me too much since I have an iPod, but I just recently discovered Amazon's store and they have much better prices for most albums.

I don't see a reason to move from AAC to MP3, honestly, SO LONG AS the stuff is DRM-free.

The beauty of DRM-free music is that you can transcode it or do whatever you want with it. The quality of AAC is arguably better than MP3 anyway, but the flexibility to do with it what you want is what's key.

But I see no reason why they chose to went with AAC in the first place. MP3 was the standard and by going with AAC they were just being conceded asshats. They do this often. Another example is Firewire. I bought accessories for my Ipod that only worked with Firewire. I bought a new Ipod Touch and guess what they got rid of......Firewire. This will most likely be the last Apple product I buy. I've had 4 Ipod products and 2 of them broke within 2 years.

Apple and the iPod have become too mainstream for me. the fanboyism that follows apple and their products have really kind of turned me off to using their stuff.

Not sure why i feel this way, but i do.

I just make sure I have my iTunes open when I hook it into the computer, and then it syncronizes automatically.

Nothing to make me switch from Amazon. Now if they had done the all you can eat subscription model like everyone thought they would...
