Would anyone on this board argue that Billie Gillespie is a good coach? No? I didn't think so.

I am watching Indiana vs. Kentucky on CBS right now, and Kentucky looks awful - much like they have all year.

Thinking about this, i am feeling much better about McD at ISU. Both coaches preach a disciplined 'system' style of basketball, and if they don't have the horses to fit their system, the system just doesn't work as well.

Once McD gets the right players for his system, we will be a force in the Big XII. just like once Gillespie gets his players, Kentucky will be back as a formidable team.

Thoughts?

Using the logic put forth by many on this board...

Fire Billy Gillispie!

It's good to have him out of the Big 12. He's a good one.

I think that is what he is getting at.

I like the comparision but BG is a proven winner in the major college ranks, unlike McD. I have no worries AT ALL about Greg's ability to coach. My concern lies within recruiting, which I feel is a legit concern. Look, if you can take UNI to 3 straight NCAA's clearly you're doing something right. His teams always fought in the tournament too, against far better teams.

Great post......Acie Law and Joseph Jones were some pretty athletic players that looked just fine in a disciplined system last year. The future's bright.

BG is in his first year. GMac is in his second year, so it might be good to keep that in mind.

What do you think would happen to BG at UK if the start of his second season included a 30-point loss to Drake, and a loss to the previous UK coach that got run off? I'd be willing to bet all my CyCredits that it would be an order of magnitude worse than anything you've seen on this board. And it would be a "worse" that might actually have consequences. Certain venting fan$ at UK probably have substantially more clout with matters in the athletic department there than venting fans do at ISU.

I would guess that the cupboard was left a little more full at Kentucky than at ISU when BG took over. Plus, I would think that Kentucky probably didn't have 4 of its top players injured or ineligible.

Perhaps, but I'm not sure it would matter much even if those things did happen to BG. It's not like Tubby was horrible there, and they were displeased with him shortly after he won them an NCAA trophy, perhaps with the previous coach's players, but a trophy nonetheless...
