Snakes. A few years ago when my father-in-law was around 75 I ran over him, I mean flat into the ground, when he got in the middle of my snake-escape route. I can't mow them and if I'm in a car and run one over I pick up my feet. I've tried talking myself down, preparing myself to see one, but then when I see one I go autopilot and freak out.

Choking to death/not being able to breathe/drowning. This became much too real this past July when my acid reflux (didn't even know I had acid reflux!) got so bad I developed vocal chord disfunction (VCD) and I couldn't breathe. I didn't know what was happening. Was home alone and in a split second my throat closed. I ran to the neighbor's as I felt like I was going to black out, and well, die before I was found. My doctor assured me that no one dies from VCD because once you pass out your vocal cords relax and you can breathe. Ahhhhh, not real assuring, thank you very much.
:swoon:

ok, I just realized this as I was typing. I thought you were Bu4ISU and I'm like wait what, you just asked the girl out on Twitter and now you're married?!?!??!?!?!?

We would find snakes in bales randomly over the summer. One time we wrapped a dead one around various door handles, tractor levers just to watch people flip. It was fun. Just a little garden snake.

That choking thing sounds absolutely terrifying!

It's been a couple decades since I asked someone on a date...

And yah, it is probably pretty irrational that an entomologist is so wigged out by snakes. Seems like most people on here veer to the fear of insects. We started keeping honeybees a couple years ago and I find being in the middle of tens of thousands of stinging insects absolutely fascinating.

I need to hunt up a new profile pic that is some weird combination of insects + female.

Yah, that's not gonna work.

Irrational sound hate: Utensils scraping against plates. Ergh.

My other irrational hate is people, mostly guys, who make that noise in the back of their throat to clear out their sinuses of mucus. I liken it to snoring while your awake. Luckily, my husband RARELY does that, and only if he has a nasty cold. And I say "mostly guys" above because the last time I was unnerved by that, it was a female employee at a shoe store.

Irrational fear: I don't know what I'm exactly afraid of, but when I turn off all, or nearly all, the lights before going up a set of stairs, I bust my butt up the stairs like I'm being chased. And only if I'm home alone.

I would want 6 feet of concrete between us.

Next time you're in the Ames are let me know. I'll suit you up and introduce you to our very gentle bees. I'm dead serious! As long as we're not out there during high honey season (and taking the honey) or a cloudy/rainy day, they could care less if we're there or not.

I don't think I could stand in the middle of bees with kevlar covering me.

I do the light thing. Everybody knows the monsters can only get you until you get to the bed.

I love Ken Holscher! That class is different from my time there. I started out as a journalism major and took an ent class for non majors to fulfil a science credit. I think it was 211. Fell in love and never looked back.

Yeah. He's the man. Pretty interesting stuff. I took it to fulfill a science credit too and since I'm a senior, it's the first and last one I took.

the cabin twist is freaky, as is when you can feel the rear of the plane start to slide one way or another. I traveled with a guy once who had this little digital altimeter that he brought with him, and we were looking at during a flight that got particularly turbulent. It was amazing to see how much we were jumping and dropping. I couldn't look after a while. I felt better not knowing.

IANAExpert here....but I thought that the digital altimeters used pressure, and in a pressurized cabin, would be worthless.

I freaking hate when people don't turn into the corresponding lane at an intersection.

People eating crunchy chips, popcorn, or cereal. Im not scared of it, but it makes my skin crawl. I also cant stand gulping noises from other people when they drink. Slurping soup is disgusting. BUT fear.....I have an rational fear of refs after Mondays hose job, and I have an irrational fear of Dentists.

Dentists are creepy, and who CHOOSES to work on other peoples teeth for a living and as a passion....they cannot be trusted.

Some mod here deleted my previous post? wtf?

1) people who get out their checkbooks after their items are rung up....witing out their check slowly, deliberately, including the memo...and even balance their checkbook while everyone waits

2) Old retired people (and stay-at-home-moms) at the drug counter, grocery store aisles, or clogging a restaurant's waiting list (i.e.;Olive Garden) from 11:30am-1pm on a WEEKDAY. Stay the hell away on a WEEKDAY, and let us working folk get our business done and back to work on time so we can make money to pay for your social security and food stamps. Do your thing from 9am-11am....and go home

3) fat, large, lonely, older dudes at convenient store counters buying cigs and powerball/scratch-offs by the dozen, but first making the clerk check the other dozen tickets, plus chatting about some inane personal story to a female clerk they have a crush on, while 10 people wait behind this guy enjoying his daily social highlight

I wish these were my only fears lol. I have panic disorder so some of the things people talk about on here sound really normal compared to what I am afraid of. I have a huge issue of going out at night, had my first panic attack at night and it got into my head that night is a bad thing. Also I cannot think of places far away. When things like that come into my mind I usually have a panic attack.
