Why? Because you think what we discuss and predict will have any bearing on how the team prepares for their opponents? Or you believe in karma? Or...?

I'll throw in a UMKC prediction too:

ISU: A lot
UMKC: Not a lot

(All said in good fun of course) <3

Maybe because he wants to see if the Cyclone squad maintains their momentum tomorrow night or if they again have a slow start before he makes his prediction for Friday.

Most Hawk fans I have spoke with says that if we play like we did against Arkansas they can't beat us. However, if we come in like we did in the CBE tourney we can be had. Fair assessment. Personally if we slip on this I will neither be surprised or disappointed. Last year I think was an exception to the rule as far as early games go under CFH. Usually we take a few on the chin early trying to figure who goes where. Maybe Maryland will be it for this year, don't know, but if we lose Friday it's no big deal. No championships we are after go through Iowa City anyway.

I am a bit concerned about Iowa's size. If we hit a few shots to start off, we will be fine. Start off cold could be a close game. They like to zone quite a bit. If they do I think they do us a favor. Most important, get back on defense and keep our composure if there are some rough spots in the game. Close one to call.

Should be a very close game. I think Kenpom has Iowa -5

Kenpom overvalues teams that lose close games and for some reason seems to undervalue the Cyclones compared to other rankings. Iowa fits the criteria of a team that loses close, yet scores a lot of points last year.

Sagarin has Iowa -2 with home court factored in.

The key will be to put pressure on the Iowa guards. I don't think we'll be as bad inside as some fear, but it is obviously not our strength yet. However, they have one guard who can play at a high level; limit him and you limit the team.

Plus we have Fred. Nuff said.

Granted it is apples and oranges without Ejim and Marble, but last year, we dominated them in the paint (points) and their guards ate our lunch.

Sometimes the exact opposite thing from what you expect happens.

I agree though, theoretically we should be able to do well against their guards, especially without Marble. Our backcourt isn't any worse than last year, and maybe better/deeper. Theirs isn't quite as good with the loss of Marble.

Front court, without Ejim, is where we may take a step back.

I really wish we had McKay to match up with White and allow us to match their size if need be.

A coming out party for Nader or a big game from Hogue would go a long way for us in that game.

I'm not sure "like" has anything to do with it.

I'm nervous about their front line but am convinced our guards will dominate. ISU 83 - Iowa 75

They aren't that slow, they're still in the top 10% nation wide in offensive pace, they just aren't playing as fast as they were last year when they were 4th in the nation in offensive possession length.

Look at their scoring against good teams. They slow it way down but run the 300+ rpi teams out of the gym.

Texas and Syracuse are among the slowest defensive tempo teams in the nation, it's no surprised their pace was slowed against those teams.

My only hope is that if ISU gets a nice lead, that they play smart with the ball and at least take some time to look for a good shot instead of putting it up like the shot clock is only 5 seconds. I know that's a part of 'Hoiball' but I saw it as a big reason Arkansas got back in the game last week. I've never liked that type of approach with a big lead, which I know many on here don't agree with.

Otherwise I think it's a toss up at Iowa. They have some veterans who have played ISU's veterans, and they've been competitive with some nice teams.

It's because they score a lot by shooting fts and scoring in transition. They get to the line against most teams, but against the good teams they can't rely on the transition game. Not sure if this is just a Mad Fran coached team trait or if it's because they don't have good shooters the past two years.

When even one of their guards is on shooting from outside they become a pretty formidable team.

I'm guessing Fred may prefer going for the knockout punch at home (any of those quick 3s we missed when we were up 18-22 could have done that to Ark) but protecting a big lead on the road. Just my guess.

When did Arkansas get back in the game? I must have missed the part where they got the margin below 11 points at any point after about the first 8 minutes.
