<=== smart enough not to get one.

The post above that mentioned the tax law wasn't settled is spot on, later the added part about needing to combat identity theft makes the public feel better for their wait. The "this day in age" response. Truth is the state government had finalized tax rates ..... I wonder who that was.

Exactly. All you have to do is look at Iowa Schedule A lines 4b and 11 that say "Reserved for future use". In prior years line 11 was for "Qualified Mortgage Insurance Premiums" and line 4b was for "General Sales tax from line 5b of the federal schedule A".

The identity theft thing is a BS statement and I tell my clients such. The Iowa legislature is wasting time on stupid issues instead of getting done what needs to be done.

What really pisses me off is when they finally finalize everything I'll have clients that I have to do Amended Iowa returns because they can now use their Qualified mortgage insurance premiums and are entitled to a larger refund. The **** part is I can't (well I could but I won't) charge the clients for this amendment because it wasn't anything they did. To bad I can't send the state a bill for my time amending the returns.

Weird. Not only did I get my 2016 within 10 business days, I got an amended 2015 rebate (yay!) a day later.

My personal tax return is the first one I do every year and I filed it while watching the Super Bowl and got my Iowa refund in 2 weeks. But I've had many calls from clients wondering where their's was.

I think it's time I look for a new accountant. He's been raising prices ridiculously, makes errors, and helps find zero deductions.

Filed in February, fed refund in a week, still waiting on state.

Son waited four months for his Kansas refund last year. Then they sent out thousands of notifications this year that had the wrong refund information on them.

Since we seem to be aspiring to be as messed up as Kansas, I'm not expecting to see the money any time soon. I wonder since they continue to cut ISU's budget for the current fiscal year if they have laid off any of the Department of Revenue people that look at tax returns? And of course, they want to keep our money longer too.

hopefully you didn't tell them their refund is dependent on the correct team winning the Super Bowl.

No, no I did my personal tax return while watching the Super Bowl not a clients.

I like to do my tax return first before any clients, kind of like a practice return lol

This, electronic filling were pretty smooth until the ID theft and fraud started. I wonder how many fraud returns they are having to sift through without invalidating some real ones?

My federal got rejected almost immediately because the fed electronic review caught a mismatch. Feedback was birthdate did not math SS. Clumsy fingers here had a typo. Corrected and resubmitted and it was accepted. Guessing refund next month.

The state is stating that they are trying to avoid fraudulent returns to the wrong parties as a big part of this. We're in the same boat, mid February, got Federal back, still waiting on state. How am I supposed to afford a Nintendo Switch without my Iowa return?

I filed mine the first week of February, got Federal in like 5 days and state in maybe 10. First time in several years I've had a refund from the state actually.

Not exactly sure.
Still waiting on a stinking K1. Probably gonna have to have an extension to avoid raising the risk of an audit.

Maybe I should pay mine so you can get yours. I have had to pay the state for the last 10 years but always get a decent amount back from federal. I don't get it.
Do you do you own taxes? If you do you may want to have a professional look at them next year. If you don't, you may want a DIFFERENT professional looking next year.

Part of that could be your "decent amount refunded" from federal is taxable on state and the amount you owe on state is a itemized deduction on your federal return. So the federal refund is bringing up your taxable state income (helping you owe more) and your amount owed on state may be bringing down your taxable federal income (Helping with a bigger refund).

Weird I'm the exact opposite. Always get a state refund but pay federal

Did mine three weeks ago, still no refund.

Oh well, it was a minor amount anyway. My school district Clear Creek Amana, took more than 3/4 of my refund.
