Lol? Why would this player give a flying **** about being polite to I-State?

Anybody in sports knows there are some teams that beat you with physicality, and some that beat you with skill/talent.
And then there are teams that get beat by both, and go 5-19 over two years.

Absolutely. At least he had some class and did not say what he really thought.

He said we are without a doubt one of the most physical teams in the conference and very well-coached.

Some of the negative cry-babies have conveniently disregarded this part of his comment, and apparently their best rationalization is that the guy was lying outrageously in a completely private conversation. Ludicrous. Incredible lengths to go to in order to slam your own team.

I don't favor any kind of bans, free discourse exposes these fools far more efficiently than a ban...plus it's chickenship to ban someone for their perspective...but the stink of Hawkeye-ism is strong with many of these people. Others are just angry children who feel the need to continuously vent their feelings while spinning gold into straw at every turn.

Ignoring them would generally be best, but it IS hard to ignore a screaming baby in a small room.

CurvedAir,

Thank you for sharing your conversation, it was interesting information and great to hear that other Big 12 teams view us as being extremely physical. Your post is much appreciated.

Not so private anymore....

Hope is a powerful thing. It seems fans will cling to anything to help explain why their team might get better. No matter how insignificant a comment or sign may be.

This dude is clearly just a nice guy telling a fan what he'd want to hear.

Maybe ISU comes out of nowhere and is an average team this year but it won't be because they tried hard. If trying hard was all it took sports wouldn't be very fun at all and there wouldn't be the haves and the have nots.

Hope is a good thing:

Well it's not rocket science. A well coached, physical team that loses is talent deficient.

So are ISU football fans currently in the middle of a long sentence in prison that they didn't deserve or crawling through a mile long tube of ****?

It does seem as though we've had some sort of curse put on us. Our cumulative winning percentage has declined ever since Sam Willaman left in 1925. When he left it was standing at a very decent 0.646. Since then we have had only two coaches leave with winning records. A.M. "Mike" Michalske and Earle Bruce. Maybe something happened in 1925-26 to have this curse put on us? There has to be an end to the mile long tube!

Like many things in life, there are grains of truth looking from both sides.

Does this player view us as a well-coached team and did we play them close this past season. Yes.

Was it an "easy" comment to make to a fan without being offensive? Yes.

I've seen plenty of high school teams, for example, that are well coached and play physical, and don't give up, but they have a losing record b/c they just don't have the horses. If a parent of the school asked me my impression of the team, I would say something similar to what this K-state alum said.

This. Sounds exactly like the polite things you say about an opponent that you're much better than.

I'm wracking my brain to remember the physical part of our team last year. Was it the OL? Was it the DLine? Our RBs? WRs? It seemed to me that giving up all those rushing yards and being one of the worst running teams in the nation points to lack of physicality.

I don't want our team to be great. I would settle for good and having a recognizable identity other then being 5-19 and among the worst D1 teams historically.

My CFO is an Iowa guy and I can tell you I always point out the positives of their programs. Some folks are polite that way. Others might just be kissing some butt.

...yeah, I'd say a couple of Rhoads's first teams were physical, and seemed to play real hard.

Last year's team may have been playing hard...but I don't recall seeing a team that was making the opponent pay for/earn their win.

Absolutely. If I actually meet an Iowa fan in real life I'm always polite and bring up positives. I won't get in an argument with someone unless I am good friends with them or I'm in a place where debate is pretty much the point, like a message board. I'm certainly not bringing up how I think Iowa's last few seasons are insanely inflated due to weak schedules and that Iowa basketball is spiraling down the drain after peaking this year with one win in the tourney.

Unless they're an ***.

We played with K-State last season, and if not for a questionable call would have won that game. Before Miller got injured and the defensive tackles got banged up it was a football team that was competitive. Then we all know what happened once injuries hit.

Oh Spokane cy...no... former players of other teams dont say you are well coached and and play hard and then continue on to say Texas is soft.

Guess what... anyone who knows football knows what he stated is true.. all you have to do is watch and know a little about the game.

Sounds to me like a simple platitude to me.

We lost a ton of players due to injury and or off the field issues. Everyone knows our 1's are good enough to be on the field. When they get injured, our 2's have just never been there. That is Iowa State football in a nut shell. Our players do play hard, and they are well coached. Otherwise we would get blown out in every game.
