I'm listening to the radio play-by-play on the texassports.com website.
Someday ISU may also get radio broadcasts...you would think.

Good set by Cyclones - lose 25-23. The Texas play-by-play announcer is the best I've ever heard. Right on top of the action.

Any similar suggestion for being on phone? It's driving someone in my house nuts to see everything except the blog on his phone. There's too much extraneous stuff on that web page when all I want to do is follow the blog.

Well, no focus maintained. We lose 15-25 in the second and third sets. This team may be lucky to finish 5th in the league.
To redeem this season we have to win aganst top teams and it was not going to be tonight. But there is no reason we can not win most of the next six games:

Sat, Oct 04 West Virginia * - - Ames, Iowa 1:00 p.m.

I hope I'm wrong. The problem shouldn't be playing at home, we're pretty good there. But, you throw in these injuries and players missing time, things are up in the air. We were getting beaten by reserves tonight at the end.

The big thing is we don't play well on the road. These other teams seem to beat lesser teams when they're supposed to. That juggernaut of volleyball, TCU got swept at OU. KSU beat KU at home. Baylor went to KSU and won last weekend. Two of those are upsets, not sure if we can do that right now.

Agree.

The departures/recruiting misses of Hudson and Malloy combined with the lack of production from the remaining JRs and SRs on the roster is really hurting the team this season. For whatever reason, both Bigbee and Hurtt have flatlined or regressed from prior seasons. Knuth's injuries have limited her but I'm not sure if you can blame injuries entirely for reduced production from Bigbee and Hurtt although I'm aware that Hurtt has recently had injury issues. I also question at times the team's overall level of physical conditioning.

I did not listen to CJL's presser for an explanation of why Capezio is not playing more. I'm assuming she has injury or illness issues.

The talent of the Frosh and Sophs on the roster is evident so the future looks bright for them but they are having growing pains against a increasingly competitive conference.

We were right there, tied at 23. Frustrating. Morgan Kuhrt really came on late. Hope we maintain our focus.

Yep, I was there last night in person at Gregory Gym. Didn't have the commentator feed (and admittedly not a VB expert either) but it sure looked like a lot of fundamental mistakes called like double hits, carries and such(??) Seemed like quite a bit of miscommunication on assignments bumping into each other. Not the coherency I recall in recent past years.

Then again, this is the #2 team in the country for a reason and it helps to have what I estimated to be about 3000 loud boisterous fans and UT band in a tiny 4K seat gym. On that note, I was REALLY disappointed in the ISU fan turnout. I have gone to most of these in Austin for the past 16 yrs and this had to be the scantiest cardinal-clad crowd I can ever remember :( Admittedly the Austin club didn't do a very good job of advertising this time. But I saw/met very few parents even(?)

Oh well, looks like Year No. 17 before the day Cyclones VB gets their first win in Austin . . .

I don't have any information on Capezio other than observing she is making a ton of errors on attacks in the matches I have watched and #2 quoted above might be the answer to the question in #1. Her hitting percentage has been awful at times although she seems to be playing a decent all around game with quite a few digs. But some of the errors have just been killers and might be playing into her time on court.

I don't kow the answer to this. If you can get people to a good match there is a good chance they will like what they see but getting them to that first good match seems to be a tough nut to crack. When the team was in Minneapolis to play the Gophers a few weeks back the Alumni Association sent a notice out to 5000 local alumni. Maybe 1500 of these actually got opened and read. I went but only saw a handful of other ISU fans there.

To that point, curious what the Texas fan turnout in Hilton is being they have been a Top-5 team for the past 5 years now, not to mention 2012 nat'l champs. I see last year's UT@ISU post-game says Hilton attendance was 3,490.

Was anyone here at that game (Hahn's sr. night)? Anyone happen to take notice to make a guess at how many of that 3.5K fans were wearing burnt orange?

Sure, Texas has a larger alumni pool around the country so I admit this ain't quite apples to apples ;-) But if a powerhouse program like UT with a larger alumni base can't get travelling fans, I suppose our VB program can't necessarily expect any better ;-)

Not a lot of Texas Exes (as they call their alumni) in Iowa. They do not have an alumni chapter in Iowa. There are somewhere between 500-999 Texas Exes in Iowa, probably closer to the 500 figure. Texas is more of a destination for ISU alumni than Iowa is for theirs. We have 1000 in Austin alone and 8000 in the state. So more ISU alumni in the city of Austin than Texas Exes in the entire state of Iowa.
