I think there's also something to being older too. People tend to grow out of being belligerent to each other about sports.
I had far more run ins and bad experiences with Iowa fans either in Des Moines when I lived there or when my wife and I were first dating and she was going to UNI. Charles City is closer to Cedar Falls, as well as Ames, Des Moines, Iowa City, etc (like I said basically all of the rest of the state).
I live in Cresco and spend a lot of time around Decorah and Calmar (and the rest of NEIA) too and I've never once got any real obnoxious Hawk BS that I can recall. I know one Iowa fan who absolutely loathes ISU the way the Iowa fans I couldn't stand in Des Moines did, but he never brings it up in front of me (or other Cyclones).
