Are there quite a few Hawk fan students at ISU? 2 neighbor kids (engineering) just transferred to Iowa from ISU. Parents told me that they were shunned by other ISU students because they were Hawk fans and never felt part of campus. I told my son that he is free to shun all hawk fans at ISU.

And rightfully so.

There are more than I thought there would be. But it definitely died down from my freshman to my sophomore year.

It's america, you can be a fan of whomever you want. However, if you wear hawk gear on the ISU campus, you should be shunned and heckled like crazy. They would be asking for it.

I think it's gotten a bit better since I was there at the turn of the century. When we were in the midst of the 15 year drought there were a TON of cocky Hawks in Ames.

Well, it's their right to root for whoever they want, just as it's others right to make that ******'s life miserable for being so dumb :twitcy:

They're engineering majors who switched *FROM* Iowa State because their sports feelings were hurt? Sounds like a dumb decision.

Not that I wouldn't expect to see Hawk fans on campus to take all kinds of ****, but I doubt they were shunned solely due to that. Sounds like a weak excuse to run back home to me.

I will never understand rooting for rival school.

The thought of a Michigan fan going to school at tOSU, OU fan going to school at Texas, Auburn fan going to school at Alabama......none of these things compute. It's a real head scratcher.

Why would you ever think you would fit in at your rival's school?

If in eight years my daughter still wants to be a vet and the only softball scholarship she gets is from Auburn University, I'd tell her to take it-- never mind the multiple generations of my family who are Alabama grads.

I see a handful, but they are certainly a small minority, and the ones that I know really have kept their mouth shut ever since September 10, 2011.

Not to derail thread but living in Cedar Rapids I swear I see as much (or more) Cyclone gear and license plates then Hawkeye in the past 5 months. I guess its too hot for the polyester windbreakers to come out yet. Interest in Iowa football is at an all time low in the CR area.

As an ISU fan who went to Iowa for undergrad, I understood that I would not fit in to a certain part of campus life. I did not attend any sporting events, did not even watch very much Iowa football while I was there, and did not wear Cyclone gear on campus. I kept my keys on a Cyclone keychain - that was about it.

Iowa fans who wear Hawkeye gear around campus are either extremely dumb, asking for it, or both.

I've been at U Iowa for about 15 years. I'm not sure that I have ever seen an undergrad student wearing ISU gear. Grad students, yes.

Aw yes, the toothless and polyester wearing Iowa faithful are quite the group.

Probably because all their gear from 2009 doesn't fit anymore

I think you dont see it as much on campus because a large number of Iowa fans cheer for Iowa because they use to win. Now that they are losers, they have become ISU fans, or Patriot fans or whatever. Most ISU fans age 18 or over were fans when ISU was 2nd best in the state so we dont switch teams we wont switch when things get tough.

One of my former roomates got kicked out of a senior event by jeff johnson for wearing a hawk shirt. It's a bad idea to wear one even if you are a respectable fan. He was never annoying about it and he wasn't trying to make a statement. He actually is a really nice guy.
