Congratulations to Meriwether. He sounds like a great young man. However, it seems strange that the local media who is supposed to objectively cover the University of Iowa players is now giving awards to the players. I already thought that Iowa sports media grovelled at the feet of the University of Iowa, but wow.

I chuckle at the thought of Randy Peterson and his colleagues awarding a "Jack Trice Gavel" to an Iowa State player.

Local media handing out awards is high school level stuff. Then again the Hawkeye ball washing media never ceases to amaze me. I don't care which way you cut it, this is weird.
Yeah, nothing against the kid, but this just looks...odd.

Funny how hawk ball washer John Sears of WHO-TV starts with the Cyclone victory but then talks about Iowa having a month to prepare for the Citrus Bowl. The tube smoker probably has it in his contract to mention Iowa in every sports broadcast he does since he is an Iowa grad.
Way to rock the homophobe.

What is the Duke Slater Golden Gavel award for? I am not familiar with it. Is it for "best player made most available to the media for interviews."?

They're all clamoring for a spot on the prestigious Kinnick Press Box Media Wall of Fame.

Yes, that's a real thing:

The list is really no surprise, either:

Whoa, Zabel and “fairness” with the Hawks? Get Gary Dolphin in there if they want more fairness.

If you want to understand how the hok fanbase has become what it is, look no farther than Zabel and Podolak.

I grew up in East Central Iowa - Ron Gonder was good. The list should stop about there.

It's hilarious the University of Iowa inserted "fairness" into their criteria. In other words, this honor is only bestowed upon broadcasters who have a very long history of being Hawkeye shills.

So you have the Hawkeyes honoring members of the media, and members of the media honoring Hawkeyes. Sounds like a perfect environment for integrity, accuracy, and fairness.

That is wrong in so many ways. And they wonder why there's a sentiment of distrust between media and common folks

Just read an SI article on how Duece's mom said the reason he left Iowa was due to slander from what KKKirk told the media on the QB issues at Iowa a couple of months ago.
