I'm looking for ways to improve web search results regarding my site. Currently, I don't show up in any sort of generic photography searches (only way to find my site is via the URL, link from another site or searching "iclick photography").

2 things I need to get done early in '09...

- Get on the list of local business results found at the top of many Google/Yahoo searches
- Improve results when searching for "photographer des moines", "senior photos des moines", etc.

The issue I have, is my site being in a frame site. I'm not sure where I need to put the META description tags, etc.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

I know very little about this, but I've heard that it takes about 5-6 months before you begin to show up in search engines. One thing you might try is to add some more keywords to your home page such as "Des Moines," "Senior Pictures," etc.

I bet if you bought some paid search advertising with Google it would help significantly. From what I understand it's not expensive at all.

If I'm not mistaken, Google primarily ranks websites based on how many sites have outgoing links to your website. This method is much better than tags as anyone can fake that stuff. So, essentially, I would get your website linked up on different photography websites, Des Moines area websites, etc.

I did some other searches last night before we headed to a family gathering - got some stuff figured out - as far as where I need to place the META tags.

Got the ISU bodypainting photos up last night as well. ;)

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Right on. I just remember their commercial from awhile ago about how they 'pride' themselves on being in the top 10 in most search engines.

As has been said link backs are very important. One little known way to get at the top of the rankings is you tube video's. Make a powerpoint presentation and put some music about your website/business. Use your keywords in the description and title of the video. And it will soar to the top seeing as google owns you tube.

Doing the google/yahoo/live.com locals is also a very good way to show up in your city.

Craiglist ads with links to your web site are quality link backs that are easy to get.

Make sure the content is always changing on your site, this also helps get it crawled more.

Start a blog put out stories etc once a month or so publish it on your site and submit it to other blogs/sites in the field you are in. These are also very high quality link backs.

Put a link to your web site on message boards in the signature area on sites that allow it. Try to be active on numerous different sites that pertain to your field.

I have more and I sent you a pm, but I think this is enough to get you started

What little I know about this stuff, searches used to be based on several pages of your web site...looking for common words. Now it is being based more on the wording on your main landing page or home page. Anyway, hope this helps. Food for thought.
