If you could go back...

Would you go to college again? Did you need it for where you are today?

For me - I could have absolutely got to where I am today without my degrees. Looking at it from that perspective the tuition I spent effectively serves as an insurance policy if I had to start over somewhere. Either way, the money paid to Iowa State was absolutely worth it for my experience outside of the classroom alone.

No I wouldn't go back, yes I need it.

The experience was great and when with buddies, we'll bring up so and so time one was **** faced and this happened.
But having a family and making money are much better. Plus, I don't really miss Home Team Pizza.

I would go back in a heartbeat.

I wasted the opportunities and freedom of college by focusing on partying too much. I graduated, ended up getting a master's degree and a job/house/kids, etc, but I squandered the activities only (realistically) available to people in college. It took me until I was about 30 to really understand life.

Have a freshman at ISU right now. The school has handled the pandemic and moving to online classes about as poorly as could possibly be imagined. Couple that with the residents of Story County wanting all the benefits of having ISU but not wanting the students that come with it means going to ISU right now is absolutely awful.

Would I go back - hell no right now. Otherwise, yes.

Needed - absolutely.

Yes and no. From an education standpoint, I would definitely go back and do things differently. I have used and need my degrees though. However, I stayed the same major from start to finish; freshman year through grad school. I wish I would have explored other majors because I’m not totally in love with what I do, but it’s a safe career path. Wish I would’ve taken more risks when I was that age.

Absolutely. Coming from a small town where the options for friends were extremely limited, I needed the college experience. You don't get to be in close proximity with 25,000-35,000 people your own age anywhere else. I know it's not exclusive to college, but I met some incredible people from many different walks of life at Iowa State.

From an educational standpoint, hard work and dedication have helped me more than my degree. However, I'm a much more open-minded and well-rounded person based on my experiences in Ames.

Yes I'd go back and yes I needed it.

I actually wanted to permanently live the college life while having a job, that would have been awesome.

What I do now has almost nothing to do with what I went to school for. That said, I loved college a lot, and I don't consider it a waste at all, especially considering I escaped with minimal debt. I would definitely go back, if only for the lack of responsibility and free time.

I loved college but wouldn’t go back. Writing 20 pagers on 19th century rural America or on Us-Sino relations in the 1970’s isn’t something I want to do ever again.

I would definitely go back and focus and some different things and make some different choices. I can't say that I use my education much right now.

I would go back just to have a good time again. If I could just go back and live there from 18-22 and not have to do any schoolwork but still got my degree, **** yea. But I hate homework and that is one of the best things about being an adult. If it's past 5-6 or whatever you're time is, you're done with work.

Push comes to shove, no I don't need my degree. Plenty of people have been successful without it but it opened up more doors and many doors faster because I had it.

There’s not a lot of people that can say they doubled there GPA from their first semester to their second one in Ames. I’m happy to say that I am part of that club.

School wise, I didn't really need school to get where I am today (I have got here because of experience and more on the job training). I did learn more about balancing, deadlines, and how to collaborate on projects and such so that was good. But to go back living a little more carefree with my best friends? I would walk out my door right now for a weekend of that.
