So you'd be a fan of "Florida destroys Iowa State - wins championship?"

Actually, that would have read...

Florida destroys I-State - wins championship?

And if that were the case, it would mean we played in our first ever national title (and therefore won our first Big 12 title). I'd be upset about losing, but ecstatic that we made it there.

As I've said before, I-State just sounds too awkward. Like you're starting to say I-owa State, but leave out the "owa". Same with O-State... when it sounds like you're beginning to say O-klahoma State.

K-State is an exception, in that the pronunciation of the first letter is not used in Kansas State. It's not Kay-ansas State. Plus, being that Kay and State sound alike, it rolls of the tongue and sounds much more natural.

What about Arizona State? Should they be "A-State"? F-State (Florida State)? P-State (Penn State)? I realize that most of those schools are established identities, but I rather establish ISU and/or Iowa State as the "official" name referring to the sports team.

I don't mind if it catches on and here's my take-

Currently there are 4 "I-States" or "ISUs" however you want to look at it.

The new logo is prominent, easy to identify, and doesn't leave the "wtf" is that symbol that the swirlybird did. (Don't get me wrong I grew up with the swirlybird, I loved it, but it didn't make sense and no one outside of our circle of friends knew what the hell it was)

With the new logo, the only question that remains is which "I" (as in Iowa, Indiana, Idaho, or Illinois)

Playing in the Big 12, Winning, and being on TV with a easier logo to identify will hopefully answer that question for the confused and outsiders. So...... the will be no more which "I"; we will be "The I-State".

At least I think that's what the plan is and I don't mind if it works.

btw- I got into an argument at a bar in Chicago that Iowa State was the real ISU and not Illinois State. Needless to say it got me nowhere.

To me it's like naming your kid. You have to think ahead...don't pick a name (William/Willy, Alexandra/Allie/Alex, etc) that the kids in Junior High can morph into something you will HATE. Junior High kids (the media / branding) are going to call you whatever they want, and that may or may not stick. However, you better be okay with it, because as a parent (Iowa State), you're going to have no say about it, no matter how much it frustrates you.
