I'll get to thinking about more noble thoughts.....like "beating defending Nat'l Champ Texas is bigger than Iowa" thinking at some point. Actually, no i won't. Never. Never evereverever. See, to me, beating Iowa and winning the division/conference/bowl tier are different things. Is it my Super Bowl? Nah. Its my Iowa game. Thats the beauty of a 'Rivalry Game'. They are part of a season, but an event unto itself.

Love this thread.

Very close to my feelings. It's like there are 2 seasons--the Iowa season (which for me includes UNI (and Drake)--in all sports that we play in-state foes--basketball (M & W) and football the most), and the rest of the season. Going 1-11 is a terrible season, but if the 1 win is against Iowa, then we had a good Iowa season. It's just fun that way--not neurotic.

The 'SuperBowl' thing...

ISU sent out a release last year before the Iowa-ISU game that was aimed at helping people avoid traffic jams coming to the game, providing alternate routes.

In the release, there was a mention of the game being 'The State of Iowa's Superbowl'

It may have morphed a bit since then.

I agree that it is the " State of Iowa's Superbowl". I just don't think it is "Iowa State's Superbowl".

Hey Jon, didn't you come on later the same date as you originally talked about this on your show and corrected it by saying you got correct information that it was a release from Iowa instead of ISU???? I remember something to that affect anyway???

It just seems to me that Iowa should take this game a little more seriously rather than place the blame on ISU for taking the game too seriously. I don't know how you can sit here and belittle a team and their great effort for "trying too hard" to win the game. Iowa fans shouldn't worry about what happens to ISU after the game, they should be pissed that they got their lunch handed to them in Ames last year by a team that is "far inferior" to them. Period. They should be mad like we're mad about losing to Baylor last year (and I'm still pissed). We treated the Baylor game much like the Hawks treated our game. In both cases, the underdog deserved to win because they prepared and executed better. It's not a matter of it being our Superbowl (because it's not and it shouldn't be). It's about Iowa not taking the game serious enough! No matter what Hawkeye fans say, ISU is no longer a warm up for the Big 10 season. We are here and we are here to stay. Until they recogize that, we'll still hear the Superbowl comment. Hawks, take the game seriously this year and you might at least get into our redzone!

Don't forget former Clone players confirming the Super Bowl mentality that ISU places on this game by having said that Mac would sell his soul to beat Iowa. He needs to put that emphasis on winning something in the conference.
