Don't have anything against the place but with the way everyone talks about it makes me sick. Kind of like every girl I know going ga-ga over the Olive Garden. :goofy:

Don't knock the Olive Garden - it's a fairly decent Americanized attempt at Italian food, much better than say Scuzzoli's or Chef Boyardee. I'll never confuse it for real Italian food, though - my grandmother is from Italy and I KNOW what a real sauce is supposed to taste like. As far as Chef Boyardee lovers on this site, my grandparents would have disowned me and THEN kicked me out of the family if I ever brought a can of that stuff into their home, much less mention it in their presence (well, they'd probably do that with the Olive Garden too).

Actually, one of the other reasons I like Ikea, is that it is often full of people who are going through dramatic changes in their lives. This makes for some incredibly interesting interpersonal dynamics. I love watching people.

Lots of pregnant women and their mothers, in full nesting mode. Lots of couples, with entirely different outlooks in Why They Are There. A few college aged kids, experimenting with being independent, and getting their first furniture.

In a way, it's free street theater. I love watching it, and trying to fill in the probable details. It can wake you up to how similar people really are. And how interesting that is.

BTW - The durability of IKEA furniture is most often directly related to how you put it together. If you half-fast the fittings, or don't use the glue properly, and under the correct conditions, the furniture will have loose joints, which will cause it to wear poorly and fail in the future.

In Germany, it is also one of the few places that offers limit-less refills on drinks. Regensburg is a huge college town (Actually, it's home to one of the oldest universities in the world) and the IKEA store is a hot-bed of student activity.

Where else can you get a meal and all the joe you can drink for $1.50?
