We have both Hy-Vee and Fareway int he small town I live in. We shop at Fareway because of the much better quality meat and produce. The produce is also the same or cheaper at Fareway.

Hy vee used to advertise 38 cents per pound bananas for perks holders. Now it’s 54 cents for our store and there is no perks discount.

I don't think I had been in a WalMart in maybe 10 years until last weekend when we were out of town and needed some medicine. Have they dramatically increased the number of shelves? It just seemed packed to the gills with tons of just crap.

@drmwevr08 you can dumb my post all you want, but there's a reason there's a website for these folks. WalMart and the halls of a high school are the only two places I've seen it acceptable to wear your pajamas outside of bedtime hours.
Little sensitive about your 'I'm too good for Walmart' schtick?

Wal-Mart are my kind of people. I go to the Grimes location to hang out even if I dont need anything.

Anyone use Fuel Saver and seeing fewer rewards recently? We buy a minority of our groceries from Hy-Vee, but we typically make at least one trip per week and scan the card to earn whatever rewards may come. Even with our relatively limited shopping, we would pick up anywhere from $0.20 to $0.40/gal over the course of a month.

For the last month-plus, we earned zero rewards. I couldn't be certain we were shopping items that should have earned them for us, but since we normally earned rewards without really even trying, it went on long enough that I was beginning to wonder if something was wrong with our account. I finally sent Hy-Vee customer service an email, and I received a response saying that you have to buy specific items and don't just earn rewards simply by shopping. (Of course I know that.)

Yesterday, for unrelated reasons, we ended up doing the majority of our grocery shopping at Hy-Vee. We finally earned a reward...for a whopping total of $0.01 per gallon. It makes me wonder if they're cutting back on offering rewards.

Out here, King Soopers does a fuel points program, but it's based on your spend.

Spend $100 this week? 10 cents/gal credited to your account. You'll get a few promos too (4x points on Friday every so often)

I like the no frills approach, but they're also a Kroger brand now so they can probably swing it better than others.

We have started buying some of our basics at Kwik Star. Milk, bread, bananas, potatoes, butter, etc. Prices are very reasonable, and quality is good!
And you can buy singles of anything basically bananas, onions, potatoes. Milk, butter, bread are reasonable. It's a easy stop if your in a hurry and don't want to go to a full blown grocery store.

Because most people think Hy-Vee is more expensive than Wal-Mart, Fareway, Price Chopper, and so on. I’ve also seen signs listing prices lower than their competitors.
I’ve settled on the fact that I just don’t like shopping at Hy-Vee because the stores are too large and there are too many options.
