If you are looking for bulletin board material, what Hufford said wasn't all that bad.

But I see Hufford's comment and raise you a comment made by a Texas player after Iowa State whupped the Longhorns a couple of years ago. "A Texas team should NEVER lose to a team like Iowa State." (I may be paraphrasing a bit).

I would hope the article with THAT comment is still hanging up in the ISU locker room somewhere.

To me, anyway, that is 100 times more motivating for the ISU players than the impact Hufford's comment will have on the Texas players

I hate to break it to you, but I seriously, seriously doubt it. They have no one else to look past us to. They are in the hunt for a national title. They know looking "past" us costs us the chance at a national title and a giant middle finger to the Big 12.

I hate Texas and would love nothing more than a 31-0 drubbing.

BUT without looking at it biasedly there are three factors that tell me Saturday night is going to be difficult. Impossible? No. But incredibly tough

A) They have no one to look past us to and every reason to focus as they're goals are close
B) They have struggled in Ames recently - losing 4 of 5 - and I doubt they want to have that *Blemish* on their record leaving the conference
C) Bullentin board material 100% matters. Tom Brady has famously been partly motivated even late in his career by being a 6th round draft pick. These guys are motivated by outside noise all the damn time.

I'm not saying we're going to get curb stomped. But I am just trying to sound a word of caution. This is not the same Texas team. This is not a bunch of 5 stars that just roll the ball onto the field. This is a well coached, well prepared group.

Its a winnable game. Every game on the schedule is a winnable game. I'm just saying... the idea that the comments don't matter or they are somehow looking past us.. I don't buy into that.

We can win. And if we win that'll be the most amazing feeling in the world to knock the arrogant asses on their arrogant asses all the way back to Texas. I'm just being real about the team coming to town on Saturday. This ain't Herman's Texas.
I am not sure I totally agree. They won their last 2 games by a field goal including OT against KSU. In both those games, they had big leads in the 4th quarter and almost loss. Certainly on paper they are better than us but those last 2 games show some vulnerability.

Kansas State is also really good.

And yes, they are not unbeatable. I am just saying, I think we need to be realistic in expectations. We have beaten teams, yes. We have 5 league wins, yes.

My point is we've beaten one team with a winning record overall and 4 of our wins are against teams with a combined 7 league wins.

As amazing as this year has been and its been incredible, I just think we need to be realistic about who we are and who they are in this particular season. We are very young all over the field. To date, when we have played teams closer to the top of the their leagues we are 1-4.

Now, most of those losses came early on, yes. And most were close, yes. That's why I have said repeatedly I don't think this is a butt whupping. I think its a close game / reasonably close.

I just am trying to avoid too many people having meltdowns if Texas pulls away on game night and chewing out the OL for not blocking or Rocco for a bad pick or whatever. I know its gonna happen no matter what, I'm just trying to pump the breaks and say this is a night where as awesome as a win would be and I'd get stone cold drunk - its also one where I don't plan on saying much during the game because I just honestly feel like this is kinda like Ole Miss-Georgia.

Ole Miss might win 10 games. Ole Miss has had a heckuva season and has a lot to be proud of. But they're just not Georgia. That's kind of where I'm at for Saturday.

We've had a heckuva season. We've got a bright future and a million things to be proud of. I just think they are on a different level. And I hope I'm wrong

They aren't unbeatable but I think you are correct here. Texas curb stomped a Kansas team 40-14 who just came into Trice and beat us.

I think this will be the best team we have played all year, Oklahoma included.

Thats a good point but I think the crap calls against us and the unfortunate negative plays vs KU don't happen this time and balances itself out and ISU is in it all the way.

https://longhornswire.usatoday.com/...ig-12-prediction/?itm_source=parsely-apiWhile I love Hufford's confidence and passion , I really wish he hadn't said what he said in public. I'm just afraid that any chance of ISU catching a Texas team that might be vulnerable is now out the window as he said they have "high egos that need to be checked". I'm hoping i am that ISU can pull off a monumental upset Saturday but Im pretty sure Texas is going to be really jacked up now to run up the score.

Trying to avoid meltdowns? Please. I'm melting down already.
Team hasn't scored in 5 days. That's too long.

I think the bottom line is that Texas & OU were never well liked by their conference mates and are even less so now that they threw things (temporarily) into chaos with their decision to bolt.

I'm not worried about our motivation Sat. And if Texas wants to focus on getting back at Hufford during the game, fine by me. I'd rather they be focused on Hufford than say Sama, Sanders, Norton or Rocco.

Lol, I was kinda being serious. I don't know either, that's why I asked. I would presume it means like sports betting, like bet is on? Lol, I'm a millennial but I didn't think I was THAT out of touch. I know generational lingo is common, but there are always some that just don't make sense. Pretty sure Jeremy had a thread on this fairly recently.

Rizz, yeet and bet. Hard to say or know Bet since a person takes out "you bet." lol. There are those abbrevs and less words because why say complete sentences anymore.

Did not know those lol. Sus, drippin, and some others aren't hard to figure out.

If kids nowadays would just use complete sentences, this would be so much easier!

I'll just roll with my assumption that "BET" is just a short way of saying "Do you want to bet?"

Let's revisit this discussion the day after the game. It turns out Coach Sark took great exception to Hufford's comments and used them very effectively to motivate his team. Lesson learned - Don't Poke the Bear...

Texas defensive tackles T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy took special exception to the trash talk. After holding Iowa State to a mere nine rushing yards on 21 attempts, the pair didn’t hesitate to throw Hufford’s words back in his face.

“9 yards rushing … that’s all. Don’t write no check you can’t cash little guy,” Murphy tweeted.

“9 rushing that’s tuff,” Sweat added.

The duo didn’t wait to look their opponents in the eye after the win. Sarkisian allow Sweat and Murphy to be Texas’ team captains for the game. They gladly accepted the chance to stare down the Cyclones before the battle began.

“Making 90 and 93 captains was intentional,” Sarkisian said. “You want to call out our culture, I wanted them to look those guys in the eyes at midfield.”
