From what I've heard, most of the country does trick-or-treating on Halloween night regardless of what day of the week it falls on. Apparently scheduling it for the Friday prior is what's weird, even though that's what I grew up with.

That is very true. I grew up in Des Moines and trick or treating was always the day before Halloween. I went to college in Minnesota and I remember asking my apartment mates if we should get candy for beggars night, which was that night, and they all asked me what the heck is beggars night. I told them, you know trick or treat night, it's tonight. They laughed, they had never heard of such a thing. I mean in their minds, why would anyone go trick or treating any night other than Halloween?

I try to be pretty inclusive:

Bowl 1 - bags of peanuts;

Bowl 2 - epi pens.

pretty sure it's on Halloween night in both WI and IL. Know for sure everyone up here is having it tomorrow night.

The other part was the jokes. No one gets the idea of telling a joke to get candy while for me that's just how it was. You needed to work for your candy

It would be pretty cool for the tailgate before the game to turn into a big trick-or-treat/trick-or-drink event. I wonder if Cy will come around before the game to hand out candy to the kids.

Apparently you never went to college, worked 3rd shift, played golf, went to a morning/afternoon football game... actually, you must not drink.

Exactly! I just got back from taking our 6 year old out, & at least 90% of the parents I saw out were just like me, beer/mug in hand & cheerful! (not saying we were all drunk, but all the instances you listed are pretty reasonable imo)

Week turnout here in my neighborhood. I'm just sitting here listening to my KISS records with a big bowl of candy.

Denver is doing trick or treat right now, so apparently Iowa isn't the only one!

The jokes are one of my favorite things about living in Des Moines. I had never heard of it before. There was an interesting article in the Register a few weeks ago about how Beggar's Night started and how the joke thing started. According to the article, the joke thing is unique to Des Moines.

Sure, you were drinking, but like you said you weren't drunk. That's all I'm saying. Anyway, we don't need to start this debate here.
