How I Met Your Mother

I felt all along that Ted and Robin would wind up together.

Not at all surprised. The good thing was that I only watched 3 episodes of the last season, including this one, and don't feel like I missed a single important part of the larger story arc.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I really liked the finale. I wasn't a fan of what happened with the mother but it makes a ton of sense why she didn't play a big part in the show.

I really liked how they stepped through big events throughout the years.

It almost makes Traci as unimportant as the other girlfriends

Yeah, that was the downside. She was the love of Ted's life but the entire purpose of the show was about Robin (which was pretty obvious throughout the series). I just didn't see how they would tie it all together at the end. And it makes a lot of sense why and how they did it. I can't see why some people didn't like it, but I did.

Fun Fact: The writers did reveal that the mother's name was Tracy in the first season.

I don't find it hard to believe that his kids want to see him happy after 6 years.
If they were going to do the illness thing, they had to have Ted and Robin. They needed the happy ending.

I agree. I didn't mind the finale, but after all these years it wasn't what I expected.

That does make a lot of sense. It is a good reminder that it had been a length of time after too. (not that I can judge an appropriate time for that....)

Not what I was expecting at all either. Maybe that's why I liked it...I didn't expect to be surprised, but I was. Of course, that's why some people will hate it too.

Say at what you want about the show tailing off recently but in my opinion, the last half of this season has been excellent.

OK, not to spoil it for people who may want to watch still, but I won't watch this, but I used to watch a little back a few years ago, could someone PM me a short summary of how it turned out? Curious after watching this thread...it's been almost 4 years since I would have watched.

The wikipedia page has already been updated with a summary of it.

How about this: watch episode 1. You're done you've seen the whole thing.

Way to many of the other girls Ted dated seemed more important than the mother and that caused me dislike the way they ended it. Didn't really let us see how the mother and Ted worked together enough due to the silly 1 weekend setting for this season. If they had just ended with them literally meeting I would've been reasonably satisfied or if they fleshed out the mother and ted and then decided to include the twist I'd have been okay with that as well.

I tried to get back into the series this season (husband is a fan, he hasn't seen the finale yet). But it was SO boring that they stayed on that one damn weekend. I quit after 3 episodes. I watched the first 20 minutes (then husband got home, had to change it!) and got the ending spoiled but some *** on FB - why did they waste the whole season on that one weekend?! Seems like there were plenty other things they could have featured.

Id say... im fine with the general ending, how things came around to robin. Im not thrilled with it, but i guess i'm ok with it. I kind of got the feeling thats where things were headed a long time ago, especially once they started giving away major clues that the mother might die.

But at the same time, we got FAR too little of the mother\tracy over the course of this season. All that buildup, for us to see her as little as we did? To get as little exposure of her and Ted's relationship as we did? Yeah.. no. They wasted too much of the season on pointless filler for me to be happy about that.

Honestly, the ending would have been completely fine if theyd just ended it at the train station and not included any of the bits about the mother dying.

First half of this season was just garbage. Some of the worst episodes of the series. I think you are right about the wedding weekend, they beat that to death until there was nothing left to do. And then the second half of this season, they started doing flashbacks, flashforwards, and referencing the funny things that happened earlier in the series. I really enjoyed the last half dozen+ episodes, including the finale.

the one with sneaking into hotel rooms was the last one I had seen and I was done after that. I hadn't watched the last couple seasons either, though.

I liked it. I wasn't expecting anything marvelous, just a bow to tie it up. And I've always wanted Ted and Robin to end up together (though I never thought they'd be able to make it happen) so I'm satisfied.

Dang didnt expect this reaction. I'm in the minority I guess as I liked the finale.

I do agree with some of the comments though that we didn't see enough of the mother and Teds relationship if they were not gonna have them live happily ever after.
