How do you grill your brats

I only buy brats from Hyvee and Fareway. I usually just throw them right on the grill. If I want beer flavored ones I just buy them instead of messing with the boiling in beer. I might have to try some of these techniques though.

I only get them from the meat counter at HyVee. Every other kind of meat I get at Fareway.
I haven't had any explosions or flareups since I started poking them before I boil. I boil them in beer since the only other alternative is water and I think that takes some flavor away. I've been thinking lately about trying to boil them in Coke. I haven't heard of anyone doing that, but I think the flavor it adds would taste good.
So far, I haven't wanted to risk ruining a brat.

Their brats are very good. Japeno cheddar, beer brats, bacon cheddar, and their regular ones are good too. I'm also a big fan of their $1 bacon burgers.

Since Fareway had apple dutch brats, I boiled regular brats in apple juice and I think that it had a sweeter flavor but it wasn't too overpowering from what I remember.

If I'm just making one package, then I go low and slow on the grill, and then straight to the bun. For a twist sometimes I will spray them while they are cooking with some Bells Amber Ale.

If I'm cooking a whole bunch, I'll start on the grill and finish in a brat tub of beer, butter, and onions.

I never poke the brat skin open.

I always just cut the casing off of them and then grill them straight up. Much better than having to bite and chew through that nasty skin.

As Matt Muphy's wife said: Don't you blaspheme in here! Don't you blaspheme in here!

Technically, though, it's not skin, it's intestine. Which is part of the digestive tract, on the poop side. But hey, if you don't like it, more for us...

tiefenthaler out of holstein. skinless brats. bomb *** diggity. won't ever eat any other brand of brat. the cheese and jalepeno stuffed are the best.

i have no idea what all this poking and boiling in beer is about. sounds aweful.

My taste has turned to italian sausages. Low and slow on the grill. I prefer the spice.

Anywhere around DSM you can buy skinless brats?

Can you just remove the casing and grill em that way too?

It amazes me that so many former college students can be so apparently frivolous with their use of beer.

I know some guys that love boiling them in beer AFTER grilling them.
I have done it this way with success too.

Or grill them for awhile and then set them in a shallow disposable aluminum pan riight on the grill with about 1/2 inch beer, and simmer them the rest of the way, making sure the beer doesn't evaporate.....just add more as you go

low and slow...

This is how I do mine. Tiefentahler's are great but Triangle meat market in Sheboygan are some of the best I have ever had. Sheboygan is the "brat capital of the world" and Triangle Meat Market rules the area.

These are the best brats I have ever had. Throw them on the grill frozen and they cook up perfect. They have a ton of flavors to choose from ranging from Bacon Chedder to Jalapeno Pineapple. They are skinless so they are no mess. They sell them at Hy Vee in Sioux City or you can order from there website.

I have had these, and they are delicious. Love the lack of casing. I did not know you could get them at other places.

If they are regular brats I go with the beer boil. Put them on the stovetop in beer, butter, and onions and boil for 20 minutes. Take directly to grill and cook. Don't let them burn.

If I am doing cheddar brats, I go straight to the grill. Cook low and slow and keep them moving. Don't walk away. Nothing is worse than a burnt or dry brat. Again, low and slow, and never poke them with anything. Tongs are a must, no exception.
