I agree. We should have pounded it inside. Craig has to stay on the block more, and demand the ball, IMO. Also, I think we should get it to Ham on the block more. He makes good decisions with the ball.
yes, as a coach you make the other team play your game not you playing the opponents game and keep pounding them until they stop you it is called killer instinct and playing your game. This team needs toughness and an attitude on the court and starts with the coaching staff. Prime example look at our football team and the coaching staff, Rhodes has passion and killer instinct, will to win and it carries over to the players.
to open up the game you have to pound it inside so therefore the defense sags and when that happens rain the three's boys!!! Do we yell shot when the opponent shoots the ball??
Observations of our rebounding situation:
1. We had a slight advantage when Ham was in the game. While not a dominative force he had a couple of nice tip ins on the offensive side of the court, and several nice boards and tips to others on the defensive end. He had something like 8 boards in his limited minutes. If the coaches are preaching, he's the only one listening.
2. No one crashes the boards. I don't know if it's because of our traditionally high FG percentage this season, but I saw several times when Brackins was heading back on defense as soon as somebody put a shot up. Usually it was when he was around the three point line. I'm seeing a lot of guys relying on their athletic talent to rebound rather than good technique. Until that changes, we will not outrebound anybody during the conference season.
On our offense:
1. Oftentimes when we shoot, no one is remotely close to the lane. Can't rebound if no one is even close.
2. Our post game is lousy. Not only can our guys not post up, when they do, we do a **** poor job of getting them the ball. Probably why we never have anyone in the paint when a shot goes up. Most of our points in the paint come from dish-offs or people driving to the basket. I still believe Craig is a great player, but until he decides that he is going to own the lane, he should probably stay out of there. He's not a good post player unless he's really angry.
3. Lucca took the ball to the hole, but missed the layup. I don't care, I thought the drive was AWESOME. I was critical of this in the last game. He must read the board. GOOD JOB LUCCA! If he keeps this up, good things are going to happen.
Overall, until we develop a serious inside game, we will struggle against good teams. Hopefully, Ham and Brackins will continue to develop and the Railey kid can make an immediate impact next year.

I know ISU fans are very proud of their team, I would love for them to go dancing, but I dont see that happening. TO many issues to be worked out.
Rebounding, Free Throws, Enthusiasim, Energy, Determination, Attitude, Motivation. I se what people mean to support the win, I understand what fans here mean when they say savour the win, I should do the same. I cant when I know ISU can do so much better.
how do you as fans solve this? I have no idea. We all can go and fill Hilton and get noisy and loud, but will that work? We all as fans wont know unless we try it.
Personally after 3.5 years of this, I am dissapointed on the quality of play we have on the hardwood. Sure fire McD, may be a solution. Someone said whats the buyout? I have no idea if ISU can afford that. We are stuck with McD and nothing we as fans can really do about it. I guess ISU has to deal with the medicrity that this staff produces. Stating stuff like McD stated, "This is a fragile team" makes no sense. I thought we brought these players in to get ISU to where it should be. I as a tax payer, Ticket buyer, and donor to the Program deserves more for what I pay on tickets and what I pay to see. McD has the recruits to get this done, stating fragile and not getting hard with them makes no sense.
Rhoads made me think twice and he proved me wrong in 1 year not 3.5. Why cant oter programs do the same? Maybe the backyard is not where we should look at all the time. Rhoads, made me proud to be a CLone fan, and I am glad he was a backyard man. Most of the times a "Homey" does not cut it. You can want to play/ or coach for a college but that may not be the right suit for you.
So it comes down to what does ISU do? Ride the shaky boat with the people that PAY the salary of the coaches? I know if a person is not up to the performance of a boss they are shown the road.
When we as fans take of blinders and realize ISU can be so much better than this, we will then get to see the Big12 North Champions, then we as ISU will be recognized again as a team to be contended with.
Again, I will state I understand that there are a lot of ISU students here and like a win here and there, I hve been out of school for a while and I just want more.

NCAA tournament showing every year if possible - WBB, MBB

Don't know if it's been said yet, but I thought it was crazy that Houston only had 7 assists...I'd be interested in seeing a practice because there was a TON of 1 on 1 pull up jumpers that they hit with a hand in their face. I can't imagine scoring that many points with only 7 assists...boggles the mind

Craig was forcing and had some bad shot selection.
Missing put back dunks really hurts.
Lucca had a nice game, almost scored his layup ever!!!

Overall, I liked our toughness, we won a close game. I'm not convinced this effort will be Duke, but I think we are capable.

To everyone who is complaining about the fans leaving at the end of regulation and the end of the 1st overtime - I was one of those fans.
However, I was running to the restroom and there were hundreds of fans right behind me. While I'm sure some fans really did leave the game, many fans were bolting right at the buzzer so they could hit the bathroom and get back to their seat before the action started again.

I think we did play our game. As regards to the four guard lineup. I liked it and thought we excelled at it, but it seemed we sacrificed rebounds for that type of lineup.
I thought Christopherson played the best game of the season thus far. Especially on the defensive end of the floor. Lucca played really smart. DG...well DG was the same old DG. Brackins....sigh....Gilstrap was a beast. When we did have bigs in there we didn't play as well. Our best line up was DG, Christopherson, Lucca, Brackins and Gilstrap. So I'm not gonna say that we didn't play our game, we did. Other games, I wouldn't say that. But this game, I think we did play our game and they did have to adjust to what we did. Hence, their offensive game plan.
There were some ghosts of Hilton Magic late in the second half. For the first time in a "Long" time the crowd began to will the team to win when the team was struggling.....that is what Hilton Magic use to be about.
Hilton Magic was waaaaay better in my day....the students are pathetic. THey don't cheer whatsoever, and are basically lifeless pieces of lard compared to our student sections when I was in college.:no:

My top beef is the run and chuck they do when they are up early in the game. I know they want to keep the excitement and momentum with crowd noise. But there is no reason you cant slow down and take calculated shots. You are already up, keep the ball in control. Half the time they run n chuck, the defense grabs the rebound and heads down for a score.
GMac says it was due in part to Quez guarding whats-his-name who was hitting the long fade-aways and not being able to be part of the rebounding due to distance away from the hoop. Also sounded like lots of long rebounds.
Hard to call the players lazy though - rebounding has lots of components including toughness, technique, opponent's shots, etc... GMac in his presser said they can't work on rebounding any more then they currently are meaning it has to come down to the players executing.
But maybe its easier to just label these kids lazy like you.
