***Houston @ Iowa State POST Game Thread***

hey buddy the students werent here today lol *******. the guy u quoted was talking about TODAYS game and the crowd was AWESOME TODAY! Don't even try to deny that just so you can brag about your "amazing" college days which i'm sure kick the **** outa mine:wink:
 
I'm not joking when I say that I think we will beat Duke. We just won a close game, we played like crap at times but we found a way to win. In the sports world things have a way of evening out, almost lose a game to Houston, then go and upset Duke.

I think we beat Duke also. And here's why. Brackins will have a huge game, he knows when he has to demand the ball and control the game, and he knows when he has to allow teammates to be the men. Today was one of those days. He knows in the long run it pays to hold back at times to let his teammates score in crucial minutes as that will be needed later in the year, and in conference play. ISU by 7.
 
Glad to get a win, and finally a close one. This was one of the better crowds of the year, but can't wait for the students to get back. They would have helped even more.

The one thing that continues to hurt this team is toughness, and it is causing the poor rebounding, shooting, ect... If they could get Ham to make one hard(Jared Homan type foul a game it would help a LOT) Houston knew even if they got down low they were not going to get fouled. Then on the other end we avoided contact (minus Gilstap). It would be nice to see Craig get back down in the paint instead of drifting outside. Dendy tried to avoid contact on a few bunnies as well. Gilstap became more aggressive in that second overtime and that is what won the game. We need more of that from others other than just him. Colvin did a nice job of this early in the second have when DG was ineffective. DG did come back and have a nice end to the game though.

agreed x 1000000000.......... students would have be CRAZY LOUD along with the general audience today being loud (loved it!). Can't wait for that home conference opener vs. Texas (Hilton Magic is comin....:yes:)

Making shots always make a huge difference in these games. Making 6 of 21 3 pointers means that you missed a lot of shots and had a lot of long rebounds. For the most part it sounded like the 3 point shots were open and taken by guys that usually make them. This team definately needs to play tougher, and hit the boards harder, but some days the ball just bounces to the other team too.

Transitive property is not something you should solely subsribe too, but you're kidding yourself if the comparison doesn't tell you something.

Again.....there's more to it than just comparing scores, matchups play a big part, and some nites teams just don't play well. However, it is a common theme that we have underachieved, and comparing us to there last opponent says something.

I could really breakdown the pieces of the game that hamper our ability to play with the best teams in our league, but the problems are recurring and some of us have continually talked about them the past 3+ years on here.

Please do post that breakdown. You can't compare the Houston team that played badly in the past with the Houston team that was playing the game today. Houston looked like a very good team to me. Houston is the type of team that when they are hot they can beat anyone in the country, when they are cold they can lose to anyone. I'd say we saw a very warm Houston team today.

Wait, UTSA beat Iowa by 12, we beat Iowa by 10, so we should've won by 22?

You mean, this is what we all expected from Houston in the first place, when we were talking about how difficult the schedule is. Given their performance this year (or at least their record), I expected more, but we did expect them to be a difficult team to beat.
