***Houston @ Iowa State POST Game Thread***

Ok.. I was wrong... I thought we outrebounded them by 2......

We were out rebounded by two.. Did you not read my first couple thoughts??? We got out rebounded by the worst team rebounding wise in the country. They are not a Big 12 team that will destroy us if we rebound that poorly. A

I'm not focussing on 4 rebounds only... I'm focussing on all 44 they had. Alot of which resulted in NO box outs. NO hustle. NO try.

Plus we were taller and more physical (on paper) then them, and we got out rebounded. If this is not a concern, then I'm wrong I guess.

This has happened all season so far. Our rebounding has been bad almost all year, it just keeps getting more and more noticeable as the teams we play get better and better.

You had post #6 in the post game thread yet you couldn't listen to any of the game on the radio... If you have checked out of BB, then great see you at spring ball. If you want to participate in post game threads it typically helps if you have watched, listen, or attended the game. Otherwise I'm sure you can start a general ***** about the team thread.

As many others have said, I made a clear note about this game being one we typically lose (close, OT) and we won, which is great. But there look to be some major flaws that were shown today, same ones that have been shown all season long.

I'm just amazed at the tone of the threads after the most exciting win of the season. I figured you'd be smart enough to see that!

1. Team still can't rebound
2. Team still can't make free throw's (they are called FREE throws for a reason)
3. Team makes a lot of mental mistakes
4. Team still jacks up way too many three's.

Result ISU wins 17 games this year and does not make the tourney AGAIN!!!!

The only positive I see is that Brackins does not look like a 1st round draft pick and probably will be in Ames again next year.

I don't question your intellect. I just assume that being in Minnesota means it isn't there. :wink:

For those that watched the game today...

Free Throws were very frustrating once again. Rebounding was pretty bad but Houston was crashing 4 to the boards something they haven't done all year which the announcers pointed out. So maybe that had something to do with it, don't really know. The missed FT rebound at the end was pretty pathetic, but I'm not gonna have that one play dictate how I felt about the whole game. Christopherson played awesome defense today but I'm not gonna yell at him for the stupid foul at the end of regulation and say he is a bad defender. I saw a dramatic improvement on hustle and toughness from this team today. I really liked what I saw. I saw mental and physical toughness today, something I really haven't seen all year.

For the overall season...yes...the points people have made earlier are still all true but I think today showed some good signs of improvement.

The Box Score I'm reading on Yahoo had Houston with 44 ribbies vs 42 for us.

They had 15 Offensive ribbies to our 11. I really would like to see that improve; it's not the first time this season.

Your original post stated it was a bad offense that only coaches who have given up use I believe.

I am not debating that it is not a great offense for everyone, but I am saying it can, and does work. It can also be used in a continuity form that allows teams to spread the floor and create mismatches, and use baseline screens.

Reading between the lines here and your comments at the end of the post-game thread was easy. There is most certainly a mentality here that if we win, everything is fine. The ton should absolutely be a bit negative after a double OT win against a team like Houston, especially when they are horrid at rebounding and had no problems doing it against us.

If fans were not a bit upset after games like this, I'd be worried about our fanbase and just how much (or little) they care about this program.

Over the radio, I heard some good battling for rebounds by Lucca, and he finished with 6 of them. That's 6 more than most of us (me, too, most of the time) would have predicted from him.

I don't know how I can argue with a guy who knows nothing about the game we are discussing.

I thought Gilstrap really came into his own with defense today. I didn't think he would be a good defender, but he did well against some guys that were quick and could shoot. Playing in pain was pretty tough also. Some nice blocked shots.

My biggest problem with today was the fans. Don't leave during OT; that's just crazy.

Me, too. We shouldn't be giving up 15 of those to that team. With the frontcourt talent that we have, we should have owned the boards against these guys.

I don't know if they just had better position for most of the game, or if there were long rebounds, or what, since I couldn't see over the radio. But we should have out-rebounded this bunch. That's fair to say.

What did you think about Houston's weave - I thought that was pretty effective at creating mismatches, or at least confusing the D for a lil' bit, but you don't see it that much anymore; it's kinda like a poor-man's Motion O.

Did you not see where I posted positives AND negatives from the game? Or did you miss that like you missed today's game?

Please...I can't believe some people are ****** about an exciting 7 point double OT win. I'm freakin' ecstatic. Sure there are things to work on, but come on.

Gilstrap was a freaking beast on defense today and then he just took the game over during the 2nd OT doing it on one leg. Great to see from him.
