***Houston @ Iowa State POST Game Thread***

Look Pipe, this is a message board when we can share opinions. So let's see your genius and hear yours.

Fortunately backfired against Houston when they ended up with a point guard 1-on-1 vs Brackings 2-ft from the basket.

Well, I know that Lute Olson, Tom Izzo, Roy Williams and many other think enough of it to utilize it.

Lute Olson: Attacking with the 1-4 Offense - BasketballCoach.com

I know that one can get a lot more out of it than a point v post mismatch

And I know it works from experience of over 300 wins as a head coach.

A factual point? You say the team is soft and lacks effort but that is not necessarily a fact but an opinion. The rebounds were 44-42 with O Reb at 15-11. I will give you we should have a better stat on the OR but lack of effort and the rebounds are basically even. Dont confuse facts with your opinion.

Fact... This team we played is one of the worst rebounding teams in the country. They have been outrebounded every game by an average of 13.

Fact... They are not a Big 12 team, they were smaller, and they blocked out and outhustled us for the ball on rebounds.

So we out rebounded them by 2??

Fact... they got several clutch rebounds, including 2 that resulted in the game going into the first over time.

So using facts I have declared and came to the conclusion that the team was soft against an inferior rebounding team. Based on averages we should of dominated the board.

We did not do that, so it's either the coaching or the players. See that the coach wasn't on the floor rebounding, I'm blaming the players on being lazy and soft today.

You guys have spent about 10 posts complaining about posters and haven't really seen any points about the team you guys have made except for the soft comment from 22 earlier but if anything, I think this team did not look soft in the end. Maybe they are in the game thread but don't see them in here.

There are a number of posts, today and in the past questioning this team's toughness.

Then they must have been so poor I didn't even know I was supposed to respond to them. You have checked out. If you don't even care enough to watch the game then why comment. Just leave and check back during spring football.

This is what amuses me. Never to think I had something else to do today.

Are you making the trip to Chicago to support the team? We are. If not, you're a horrible fan.

See, I can make sweeping, foolish judgments too! Again, why not discuss the team? It's easy to do.

In game thread.. Followed by this last one.. Well the one before this one, but after your post. Is that good enough for you???

Sorry don't have the money to attend, so I went with the ingame thread and mediacom... I know.. I'm a terrible fan.:jimlad:

So you can jump right on and post right away, but couldn't get to a radio at listen to any of the game. Right...

I bought tickets to the Chicago game the first day they were available. You aren't a bad fan for not watching; you are a bad fan for not watching and then posting like crazy on a thread about said game with some pretty big opinions on the game.

The biggest disappointment in this game was the fans. Way too many left during the 2 OT's. I couldn't believe it.

Honestly cant blame them...you can really only take so much. I turned if off after we came back from down 2, which really we were dead to rights at that point. Only to not control a rebound of a 1 and 1....then give let the team score.

I just now came back to see if we won...thought for sure we lost. McDermott better yet his head out of his *** and do some of that coaching stuff, b/c this team lacks mental toughness and determination.

Ham needs more shots. What's he shooting? something like 85%. He also needs to learn how to box out. I know he's a soph and hope his game continues to improve. Lucca shot well from three, but is a complete liability on D. Buckley didn't see the floor and I'll bet he's gonna transfer. What else? Craig might as well stick around and finish his degree. In the long run it will pay off much better for him because there's no way he's an NBA caliber player. What's he gonna do when someone pulls a gun in the locker room? Not near tough enough. Great job by DG an MG in overtime.

Every player on this team needs to get more touches, passign the ball around will do wonders for this team. Why since one player doesnt see the floor means he will trans, he is one injury away from seeing the floor a lot. CB started slow last year as well, we will see how the rest of the season pans out.

86 rebounds and you focus on 3 or 4 of them?

and we actually were outrebounded. How many long rebounds were there? How many bad bounces? Any deadball rebounds? Maybe they were on their game today? Its a little known fact but sometimes teams without as much talent actually play good games and and above their skill level.

Wow, it's almost like we didn't win an exciting double OT game.

Great win, Clones, no matter how it was done.

Go Cyclones!!

I'll second that. I don't know if I have the energy left to actually cheer at the WBB game tonight, but I'll try.

1. I love being called a liar. Should I post what we've been working on most of the day, get done just in time to watch the Cowboys game?
2. Didn't post like crazy
3. Made comments about the TEAM, as I made clear
4. Still waiting for you to dispute the statements I made.

People that lack the ability and thought to debate often resort to personal attacks.

Not that 22 needs help... But the problems we had today have been the same for almost everygame.

If Chris does the call in show today, all he would have to do, is hit the record button and play it over after next game. All the complaints and gripes will be exactly the same.

Our problems have not changed since the first week. They were just hidden more because of the level of our opponents.

So after a win, all comments must be rah-rah? These are the retorts that amuse me and unlike many, I know you are smarter than this.

As many others have said, I made a clear note about this game being one we typically lose (close, OT) and we won, which is great. But there look to be some major flaws that were shown today, same ones that have been shown all season long.

As far as the game goes.

I thought we played well in overtime. We showed signs of being a very good team. It is hard for teams to play up at their highest level all the time. And we were able to beat a team who can push the tempo.

I like the fact we have played a variety of types of teams including slow it down teams like Northwestern, and up tempo teams like today. Will help us as the season progresses, and in tournament play.

We do need to work harder on the boards. And we do need to be more consistent.

Well, I know that Lute Olson, Tom Izzo, Roy Williams and many other think enough of it to utilize it.

And guess who Lute, Izzo and Williams had running point guard? And I never saw their teams using it as the primary offensive strategy - standing around for 25-seconds waiting to start the offense with 10 ticks left.

For the 1-4 Flat to work, the following has to happen:
1. Break down the front-line defense.
2. Dribble penetration into the lane.
3. Recogonize the back-court the backcourt switch.
4. Make a dish pass, or shoot over a 4/5 post player.

...and it all has to be done with 8-10 secs left; you can do it with an excellent point guard; hardly with a mediocre one.

It's a desperation strategy when the primary O fails - and that can be ok at times, but most of the time I think it lulls the other offensive players out of tempo and doesn't get rebounders in the best position.
