kauai for sure

beaches, hiking, giant crater exploring (srsly the thing is like the effing grand canyon), small towns for shopping/walking around, cave exploring

stay in lihue (east cost), plan day trips to the north (caves/historical old towns) and south sides (crater national park/vineyards/brewery) of the island... best beaches in the world on all sides

Hawaii might be a bit expensive for your price range. I've heard St. Lucia is very similar but slightly less on cost/airfare (we plan to go next June). We went to Jamaica for our HM, to one of the Couples resorts, and I do think you could get everything you're looking for there.

My advice would be to go talk to a travel agent. It should be free and if you talk to one who has done a lot of tropical travel, they can give you all the ins and outs and help you find something that really works for you.

In Hawaii.....No.

Well, at least not in Maui. Have not been to any other islands. But flights will probably cost you $1200 alone.

You might be able to find a deal on Maui. 3 years ago we spent a week in Hawaii and I think it was $3800 for the 2 of us, might have been $2800 but I doubt it. Just depends on how "extravagant" you want to go. We booked ours through a travel agent and I bet a bulk of the cost was the air fare. This is where we stayed in Maui which probably wasn't the top end of the resorts there but it was still pretty nice and along the beach: KBH Maui: Home Just a short drive from all kinds of attractions on the island too and if you are looking for things to do this is a site we booked a few things from: Hawaii Activities - Hawaii tours, Things to do in Hawaii, attractions, adventures, and activity planning.

I'm sure a lot of it depends on when you go, how many times you transfer planes (we did DSM to Denver to San Franscisco to Maui) and how high end of a resort you want to stay at. I would recommend 1 thing is if you want to see Pearl Harbor do it on your last night and make that your only night stay in Honolulu because that city is way too over-run by tourists and lame tourist trap stuff that you'll get sick of it pretty quick. Maui was so much more cultural and relaxing. If we ever go again I want to spend a few days on either Kaui or the Big Island but Maui was definately well worth it.

Hawaii is great, but expensive. We stayed in Waikiki for the whole trip but rented a car for 3 days and went all around the island. We really liked Oahu...you could get the "big city" Vegas-style feel in Waikiki (no casinos though) and the laid-back Caribbean feel in the North Shore areas. We stayed 8 nights with flights out of DM for about $5k ($3,500 was the flight and hotel).

I'd second Costa Rica for similiar, but cheaper, option.

I agree about St Lucia. It may not be where you end up choosing to go but it has all the thing you listed and is worth a serious look. If I remember right, over half of the island is like a national park with jungles, waterfalls, dormant volcano, etc.

I guess it depends, if you go to couples in Ocho Rios, you can do a lot of stuff off the resort. In Negril however, it is just you, a palm tree, a bar, and a beach. This is why we go to Negril, but I am looking for a relaxing vacation.

Save the money and stay somewhere close to home. All the sights you need to see are there in your room. Then you will have money for a vacation in a couple years after she develops the nightly headache syndrome called marriage.

Stayed at the Moon Palace cancun a couple years ago, it was $2k for 5 days all-inclusive. Nice place and beach, pretty good food. I'd go back and it would be a good honeymoon spot. Plus you can get non stop flights there from a lot of places.

I went on my honeymoon to Bora Bora. It was $5-6k for 5 days at the Sofitel in an over the water bungalow. Expensive but you could dive into 20 ft deep clear water with reefs at the bottom right from your own deck.

I've heard good things about Costa Rica and Belize, bad things about Jamaica, Dominican R and Bahamas.
