I didn't misspeak, I just assumed you were talking about a problem with crowd behavior during the anthem. And I assumed that a person of your experience would be aware that, like it or not, there are a few thousand idiots in a crowd of 15,000 people at EVERY arena. At KU, at ISU. EVERY arena. It's simple math. There is no cross section of this country where you can gather up 15,000 people and not have a few thousand that will get carried away in a group if given the opportunity.
You think one out of every five people is an idiot? No. There might be 500 idiots at Hilton. Maybe. A few thousand idiots at the phog... definitely possible.

Play Jock Jams. That would be exciting and fresh.

Ya'll ready for this. But seriously, I know this is about as old as jock jams but how b.a. would it be if this was our entrance music and video package?

Or just roll with all of the other good ideas about better video, lighting, sound systems, etc and let this whole stupid side conversation about the national anthem go. I am sorry I brought it up and I'm rarely sorry about anything I say. This is mind bogglingly stupid.

You are becoming aware of your own stupidity. Progress!

I know the complaints about flag guy...but we like the run (too bad the guy apparently had an over-sized ego). Speaking of over-sized - I would LOVE to see "Gladys" do the flag run every game. S/he did it just as fast as flag guy, and with a much better sense of humor!

I started writing a reply a while ago suggesting that you just say you didn't say what you meant and move on, Tuco. You try so hard to be right all the time that you find yourself doggedly defending positions that are ridiculous. Everyone makes mistakes posting, just admit it and move on. You have pointed out serious flaws in my reasoning before. I owned up to it and moved on. People will respect you more, rather than less, for it. I didn't post it then because I figured it would do no good. I'm not sure why I am now. Regardless, the fixation on the anthem has run its course. Let's do move on.
This isn't a "right or wrong" situation. It's a preference, an opinion. I get a little sensitive about people messing with the National Anthem due to my own family history. That's my preference. I also am of the opinion that singing it loud isn't intimidating. That's my opinion. I have stated over and over and over if others feel differently then go for it. Seems to be the exact opposite of "trying so hard to be right". No one's opinion can be considered right or wrong on something that doesn't have a correct answer. You guys are trying WAY too hard to zing me on this and it's pretty much ruined the conversation.

In large groups even smart people can behave like idiots. Turn on the news; it gets proven every day.

Suggesting everyone proudly sing along is not messing with it. You took it somewhere else and someone pointed that out to you:
Oh thank God. The KU perspective. Who said anything about screaming that the top of one's lungs or intimidation tactic? he said sing out loud. I know you probably can't remember the words, but.....
And instead of admitting reading comprehension error you stuck with it:

Hey, roll with it. To each their own. It's not exactly a real upbeat, intimidating song so good luck getting the desired effect. And good luck with the crotchety, blue haired veterans who donate big bucks and complain about people standing up. I am sure they'll be fine with it...

You need to occasionally learn to quit while you are behind.

Even after all these years that song and video is still just as bad as I remember it being.

For the same reason that standing up in a crowd is annoying to some people. Some people will simply complain about ANYTHING. Plus, it wouldn't take long before a handful of drunken idiots would get carried away. And like I said, I just don't see a loud Anthem as being intimidating. It's just....loud.

To each their own I guess. I love it when I watch a hockey game, and if they're playing in Canada all of the fans are singing along to 'Oh Canada'. I think it's awesome
