I have many family members close to the path of the flooding along the Guadeloupe in the Texas Hill Country. So far, all of my family are okay...but many of the children washed away from that all-girls summer camp are still missing. The river rose approx 25 feet in less than an hour, in the early morning hours today. Rough timing...when everyone is asleep and not knowing that it's happening.

My closest family members are in Harper, which sits between the two major flooding areas (and north of the Guadeloupe). My grandparents' ranch was in Mountain Home, on Johnson Creek (which doesn't appear to be flooding much. The major flooding of the Guadeloupe is in Kerrville, where my father went to high school.

I thought of you when they said Texas hill country. I am glad your family is safe, but I'm praying for all of those who are affected. Truly awful.

You know you’re old when you notice gas prices. Seattle was 4.97, 30-40 miles south was 4.19. Clear lake, Iowa was 2.77.

Interstate stops in MI and Indiana were seen at around 3.60 iirc but most other places I've seen are 3.06ish or lower.

Costco in Middleton is currently 2.75.

At the Hoh river in Washington, I was people watching and I realized that kids haven’t changed much since my time. Every young boy that walked by the river would play by throwing/skipping rocks into the river.
I knew you were out in Washington; didn't know you were out on the Peninsula. Did a lot of hiking there in my teen years. It's beautiful, isn't it?

Not exactly sure.
The old, nor rain, nor sleet or snow will keep the mailman from delivering the mail; but if a holiday falls on a Friday, then no mail on Saturday.

Our mailman decided to have a 3 day weekend this week. If anyone hasn’t gotten that thing where they email you what you are receiving that day, do it. It’s interesting all the things that you realize are not delivered or delivered to the wrong address.

Yes, beautiful area. Enjoyed the many different eco systems that you can experience.
Yup. Washington goes from coast to rainforest to mountains with fir forests on the west side (wet side) and pine forests on the east (dry) side, to a fertile river valley, to high desert, to rolling hills covered with wheat, to mountains on the northern Idaho border. More variety than most other states. :D

Btw, got to the top of hurricane ridge (even climbed the non trail to get another 50 foot higher) and as I’m sitting there looking at the view this guy walks up and yells go hawks at me. I had an ISU windbreaker on. It doesn’t even phase me anymore.
