Kragthorpe is willing to leave, Patterson is a real question mark. He played and coach at TCU. Is he a TCU lifer? If not would he leave Texas?
He never played at TCU...I beleive he is a K-State Alma Mater, and they tried to get him to coach there after Snyder steped down, but were unsucessful.

I think most people just assumed he was someone we either weren't looking at, or had no chance of getting. People are getting excited now because they didn't really think he was an option earlier, and not worth discussion.

Some positives I see:

The man is a proven 1A coach.
He has Texas Ties that should help recruiting.
Can win the big games he shouldn't. Wins over Oklahoma and ISU in the same year. (ISU was a big win just from the standpoint of beating a school from a BCS Conference)

There are still questions, but I do think he has the highest Reward/Risk ratio. It would be awfully tough to get him out of Dallas though.

Patterson has a great recruiting network in Texas. He has been very successful at TCU. Last year his team beat both Oklahoma at Olkahoma and they beat ISU in the Houston Bowl. His record at TCU is 51-20. He's know for being a defensive specialist.

Previously it was thought that Patterson wouldn't leave TCU, unless a REALLY good job came calling. Now there has been more talk about him possibly leaving for a BCS school. Its not that people are all giddy about Patterson all the sudden, it was just thought it was a very unlikely hire...

He's 4-0 against the Big Twelve the last two years. His teams play smash mouth defense. His offenses are fast and are balanced. He has established recruiting roots in Texas. He would be a perfect hire.

If we have ANY chance of getting Patterson, I hope JP and the big boosters are willing to crack open the check book. If ISU wants to turn things around I think they need to bring in a big name like him. (Like Johnny Orr in basketball.)

TCU is 8-2 this year with wins over Texas Tech and Baylor, 2 teams that we have lost to in the past couple of years. Patterson has lead TCU to 3 10 win season and has a 5 year record of 43-18. Patterson lead them to wins in the 02 Liberty Bowl and the 05 EV1.Net bowl against our Clones.

This would be a very good hire IMO. I believe Patterson's wife is an ISU grad and has family here in Iowa. Definite plus :yes4lo:

I thought that Patterson's wife and family were all from Iowa and were ISU fans until Patterson got the TCU job? I remember discussions about this when we played them last year in the Houston Bowl. Am I wrong on this?

ISUCLONES - are you an Altoona native? Also, sorry 'bout the repeat info; I had the same thing posted then had to edit to talk about Patterson's wife's parents! Haha my bad!

I grew up in Des Moines and made the move out to Altoona earlier this year. I have really taken to the town with all the excitement over the SE Polk 4A football run.

Patterson definitely fits the bill as the "surprise" hire. A lot of people say he's an all-around good choice, but I think hiring him would create the same level of excitement that McD has created for the basketball program; maybe even more so than Harbaugh would.

I agree AirWalke. I have been sold on Harbaugh for the past week, but Patterson's name being thrown around as a "surprise" candidate has got me excited. If Patterson were interested, he would definitely be a level above Harbaugh on my new coach wish list.

Any word on Phil Bennett of SMU? Heard Jon Miller and Deace talk about him and he does have a impressive bio. With Mr. Pollard being in Dallas last Friday, that would be a easy interview!! Just seeing if anyone else have heard anything about this.
