OK CF's, being unemployed for 3 weeks now, I figured what better time to wire up my DTV DVR and new Blu Ray player downstairs.
I think I've got the correct cat5 cables needed ready to buy in my cart from Monoprice, but need help on wall plate, etc.
I want to run a 50 foot cat5 from an upstairs bedroom to a 2 outlet wall plate(my house is a 1976 bi-level) through the understairs closet.
1)How hard is it to run the cable through the existing wall? If not, I can just run it through the floor through the downstairs bedroom ceiling(won't be pretty) and through the closet under the stairs.
2)What wall plate/adapters from Monoprice do I need? There is too many for me to choose.
Are you out there DMCLONE!!
Thanks,
Gregg

I'm here.....

Have you considered something like this?

Newegg.com - NETGEAR XAVB2001-100NAS Up to 200Mbps Powerline AV 200 Adapter Kit

Since you're home is older I don't know how that would effect the transmission but it has worked great for me.

Then just attach a cheap ($15) switch to it and you'll have tons of options

If you want to stick with the wired method I believe you'll need a cat5 punchdown keystone jack and then just one of their basic faceplates

Then attach a switch to it so you can run multiple lines.

Newegg.com - D-Link DES-1105 10/100Mbps Desktop Switch 5 x RJ45 2K MAC Address Table 64KB Buffer Memory

My suggestion would be to go apply for jobs instead, but then again that is me.

Got to do something with unemployed time. I think there's only so much searching a person can do before they lose their mind.

Of course, it's likely already gone anyway, since you're here with us.
