They will almost certainly be a better team next year.

They may not make a Sweet 16.

They may not win the Big 12 tournament.

They may not have a shot at the league title going into the final week.

Indeed, it was a hell of a season.

You’re certainly entitled to disagree. But I see it as the last 2 seasons ended because we showed up unprepared and laid some eggs.

We absolutely beat ourselves tonight.
We were 3 points short of what should've been the last 2 seed. Our offense certainly struggled, but our defense held the no. 1 offense to 72 points and kept us in the game. How is it laying an egg when you make it to the Sweet 16?

The season was not an egg, not at all. Tonight was. That first half, followed by enough missed bunnies that could’ve meant a win.

Give TJ a raise/extension and tell him to figure out how to prevent the team from being completely unprepared for a Sweet 16 game.

Excited for next year!
You be frustrated we get to this point and hit a wall and also grateful we are here so fast from when he took over. Pay him, returning guards improve, add another big and shooter in portal, take the next step.

Our kryptonite is a 5 being able to distribute the ball and shoot it well. We saw it with Khalifa at BYU, and we saw it again with Hawkins tonight.

Should have played Watson on Hawkins imo. Hope he sticks around and we can figure out how to utilize his skill set a little more.

Next year is the year to break through. This really wasn't it. Have to attack the portal which they are. We played 4 on 5 a lot at times. Next year is the year.

I can promise you the team was as prepared as they could be. They got sped up in the first half.

Strategically, we probably should have stopped doubling as much with Shannon on the floor. We learned that lesson a little late. That’s not being unprepared, or even poor coaching, imo.

We saw so much progress this year. Remember losing in the first round last year and just begging to have a couple of three point shooters? With Tamin and Curtis we had that this year, Gilbert and King some as well, and of course with Momc for a good part of the season but he definitely had big freshman nerves on nights like tonight. This team achieved it's absolute ceiling this season with the exception of tonight's game. Solid noncon even though the schedule was weak, 13 big 12 wins, big 12 tourney title, then in the tourney falling 1 game short of what they were capable of. Tonight they peed that one away, but no way they were beating Uconn. Just a fun season and a great team to watch this winter. The tourney is so fun and special but it always ends in demoralizing fashion for 67 of 68 teams.

IL was clearly the better team tonight. I think we probably win that game 7 out of 10 times, it just wasn’t tonight. People will say it was effort, coaching, or refs, but shots just wouldn’t drop.

We missed 13 layups and or dunks tonight. If those fall, we win easily. If one more guy had a decent night, we win. It just wasn’t in the cards tonight.

Proud of the guys and coaches, still a monumental achievement compared to coming into the season.

Proven high level offensive starters are the guys we can’t afford in the portal. But we’re ramping up the HS recruiting of shooters and our developmental work continues to be great. We keep our core, get a few more dynamic bigs and another shooter and we’re NC caliber.

Defense was the right way to turn the program around and the offense will keep improving each year.

People need to keep their heads out of their ass and realize it is going to be iterative getting to the next level as that’s the hardest step for every program. TJ has us on the right path.

First ISU coach to take 2 teams to the Sweet Sixteen and it’s only year 3.

2nd in conference that is at an all time high difficulty. Beat #1 team twice.

2nd most wins in a season ever at ISU.

If you don’t see the accomplishments for how huge they are historically for us and see the incredible pipeline of talent, you’re watching the wrong program.

With how improved Lipsey was from his freshman to sophomore season, I hope all returning players learn from and emulate that work ethic to step up their game. Making a deep run in the tournament is mostly about getting the opportunities and then getting some breaks to go your way. If TJ can get Iowa State into the tournament every year with decent seeds then I'm confident that Iowa State will make a final four during his tenure. Every year has improved under TJ and next year will be no different. I'm sad this season is over but very optimistic about the future.

This is the main reason we're so easy to defend. Opposing teams take there center and pack the lane full when we do the top of the key screens and dribble handoffs.
