I do like to "toast" a store bought soft tortilla sometimes on a griddle when making tacos at home for this very reason. kind of a middle ground between hard and soft.

I do like to "toast" a store bought soft tortilla sometimes on a griddle when making tacos at home for this very reason. kind of a middle ground between hard and soft.
I don't like most Mexican dishes including ground beef tacos. I'm weird, I know. I do love me some fajitas though.
If I had to pick, I'd go with soft shell, but both are good options if done well.
I'm not a fan of the thick hard shell tacos. A thin hard shell is good (I also like La Tiara), but you have a time frame in which to eat them before you end up with a plate of taco salad.
Fresh made tortillas are the nectar of the gods. I can eat damn near anything off a plate with a home-made tortilla. This guy at my work occasionally brings in street tacos that his wife makes. All they consist of is seasoned meat, onion and cilantro on fresh tortillas. Uh-may-zing.

I was this way for years - hated the fact I couldn't get an equal amount bite every time with the hard shell and that it fell apart.
After 40 years, I realized I really don't care about that and now lean towards the hard corn shells. I think they taste better than the soft flour tortilla, which was my go to for a long time.
FYI - my sister in law, who is half Mexican, flips the **** out when a person uses "shell" interchangeably for hard and soft. "It's a tortilla, not a shell!" Makes me chuckle.
I like both but never have hard shells at home. We use tortillas for lots of things, so they're more versatile.

Neither would I. I wouldn’t want it sharting all over my man cave. I do enough of that as it is.
They aren't even the same genre.
Hard shell is the better taco. Soft shells are much easier. Both have their place and there aren't wrong answers. That said, the exotic shell game is where the greatest tacos are.
On a similar note I've always been a Taco Bell over Taco Johns guy. I think it's because we had a Johns in my hometown so Bell was something different and the crunchwrap supreme was a game changer. I was forced to go to Johns last night and we have a ballgame. the grilled stuffed taco give the crunchwrap a run.
For the price of Taco Bell, I don't know why anyone is trying to compare it to even mediocre Mexican restaurants. It's cheap ****** stoner food. Appreciate it for what it is.
I'm more of a nachos guy myself. But for tacos I like a soft flour tortilla lightly brushed with olive oil or butter and warmed up on the grill for a few seconds on either side.

Not to mention, Taco Bell doesn't serve the big tiebreaker between it and TJ's, Potato Ole's.
Also, I prefer soft tortillas but hard tortillas are fine. I don't want to p!ss off anybody's sister.

Soft corn tortilla if it's an authentic Mexican restaurant/take out (which also means it won't be ground beef).
Lightly fried corn tortilla if it's tacos at home (where it's likely ground beef). It shouldn't be as crunchy as a tortilla chip.
Flour tortillas are for burritos and kid tacos.
