Have you tried Nonna's in Ankeny? I love it. I'm with you on Grimaldis. It's fine.Had a slice of pepperoni at Grimaldis in Ankeny for lunch, it’s ok but nothing special.

I prefer Pepps, Dough Co, Parlor and Taste of NY.
No, I’ll have to give it a try next time.Have you tried Nonna's in Ankeny? I love it. I'm with you on Grimaldis. It's fine.
No lieI've said it in other threads and I'll die on this hill: Old Georges when it was on S Duff (no longer in business) sausage pizza was the GOAT.
George’s in Nevada was the bomb back in the day. I could easily down a whole large sausage and mushroom by myself.I've said it in other threads and I'll die on this hill: Old Georges when it was on S Duff (no longer in business) sausage pizza was the GOAT.
...and GPS&D's wheat crust is called Denver Style.Beau Jo's actually started 6 years before GPS&D and I'm pretty convinced that that's where they got the basic idea from. I'm a big pizza nerd and I've looked into this before. They do offer a wheat crust, but it doesn't touch Great Plains.
Detroit and Chicago Tavern styles are the best as far as I'm concerned.
Detroit can be hard to find in the Des Moines area. Parlor is really good. As far as the national chains go, Jet's is quite good.
Really? It seems like people have been talking about Detroit style pizza for a decade. Most people on this site probably aren't familiar with "Detroit-style" (and no, Little Caesar's and Domino's don't count, even if they were both started in Detroit),
Ya, I don't think anyone is confusing Little Caesar's and Domino's traditional offerings as Detroit Style. When I brought them up earlier, Domino's deep dish in the late 90's was most assuredly Detroit Style inspired, not Chicago Style, and Little Caesar's lunch special is definitely a Detroit Style pizza.Really? Sbarrao moved into the whatever the old pizza place in the food court used to be at Jordan Creek.Does anybody still eat Sbarro? Or are they even a thing anymore? I remember getting Sbarro slices at one of the malls in Des Moines when I was in high school. Might have been Southridge.

Isn't a toll plaza where they have toll booths and you actually pay the toll and an oasis is where you get gas and food without having to get off of the toll road? Or have I been calling these things incorrectly all of these years?I had some Sbarro recently at a toll plaza in Indiana. It honestly wasn't that bad for what it is. I used to frequent the one at Valley West Mall in my younger years.

So a toll plaza is where you pay the toll and a travel plaza is where you get your fuel, food and drink. Got it.I think they're named "Oasis" plazas in Illinois.
