I am a history fan and love hearing old historic stories about the times at Iowa State. Please post all great stories told throughout the years.

I heard a pair of twins chopped off some girls head in the 70s. Tragic but a story I'd like to know more about.

I also saw a documentary on cyclones.tv of the University of Iowa and the BOR taking all the female students from ISU and having them transfer to The U of I in the 20s.

This could be fun. Please share so we all can learn more about ISU.

Was that female student policy still in place during the 90's? I remember a few parties being sausage only

So there I was, minding my own business, in about 1998 at a party on Welch Ave. with a few of my sausage endowed friends. We were standing in the front yard and chatting about some long-forgotten topic when a guy walks by on the sidewalk with a girl on each arm. As he walks by he looks at us and remarks "Looks like a sausage party to me," then proceeds to stroll smirkingly into a parking meter and fall flat on his ***.

Class of 1948 graduate told me this one (he was a military student at the end of WWII): He arrived late to class in April 1945 and the professor got all up in his face about it. He explained that he and his classmate were late because they were putting the flags at half-mast because President Roosevelt had just died. Sort of put the prof in his place.

An obvious one would be the story of Jack Trice. Not the end result of course, but how his story still lives today

Greatest story is how I somehow never got arrested or a citation in college. Not sure how that one happened...

Well I got 3 or so citations I think? Arrested once by getting tackled by a big pizzed off cop for running felt that one the next day!

Funniest/pathetic story for me is me and my buddy went to Perkins after the Fox one night completely hammered. Got thrown out of Perkins for being azzhats, so our response was to pee on the front door of Perkins. Turns out a cop was rolling down Duff at the time and noticed suspicious activity. I noticed the cop and headed for the hills, my buddy a big fat dude didn't catch him in time. Turns out when the cop asked him what he was doing he turned around and his pants fell down to his ankles. Needless to say he spent the night in jail.

Moral of the story do stupid **** with a friend who is slower than you.

I work for the University Museums and have always had a love for history and trivia. If you can't tell by my avatar, I am also a huge fan of the George Washington Carver legacy and ISU. Carver was ISU's first African American student and on top of being a remarkable scientist and student he was also a phenomenal masseuse. He was a sports trainer for the football team and was known as the 'rubber' because of his skills. He would later develop a rubbing oil out of peanuts that was highly regarded for its ability to penetrate deep muscle tissue and relieve soreness.

Future NFL prospect tore down and lugged a stop sign around downtown during VEISHA...oh you remember that one already.

Anybody here ever make it to the house directly north of the AXO sand volleyball court...behind the "It's OK" house on Lynn...between 97 and 00? It's a shame they leveled that place. It should be recognized as a historical landmark.

One night, two friends and I went to eat at Perkins at 3 a.m. or so. About 10-15 minutes after we were seated, Royce White and his entourage is seated in the booth right behind us. I freak out, but I don't make it obvious. I don't know why, I've never been star struck before in my life. I ask my friends to try to get a photo, (it would have been too obvious if I tried to take it.) We eat and leave.

When we get out to the car, my friends simultaneously ask, "Who is Royce White?"

While on Spring break my senior year, a group of us went to Winter Park to ski. My roommate and I were down at the hot tub and met a much older couple who went to ISU in their day. Heard lots of great stories but the one I still remember to this day is that he and some friends disassembled another friends car and rebuilt it in the friends room.

Heard once that a guy went golfing with Eustachy, and he not only had enough beer for everyone to have 2 beers/hole, but he spent the entire day just sucking it up--in the sand, etc.

The last hole, he bet double or nothing for par, and since he sucked all day, everyone went in.

I think he shot under par or something, and had been hosing everyone all day just for that last bet.

Also heard that after the Elite 8 game, he was in a bar, and told a couple of prospective NBA agents something like that they could have Fizer, but Tinsley needed to learn how to read before he went into the NBA.

I kinda miss that sleazeball.

Don't think the beheading was done by twins, but they were brothers. The dead girl was too big to fit in the refrigerator box they tried to use, so it was off with the head. Her head was dumped out on a gravel road south of town and the body in the fridge box up north at Little Wall Lake.
Also, don't think any of the involved parties were connected to ISU, just Ames.

A great story (and I can't give details about who was involved) from the 1950's. A vet student is upset because some frat guy "stole" his girlfriend. During Christmas break he and a couple other vet students take a killer horse (one that is going to be put down for dissection) into the empty frat house, lead it up to the top floor and euthanize it there. Left it's corpse for all of the holiday break. Talk about paybacks...
